My question is: when does masking the kids ever end? Kids are more likely to die in a car crash than of covid, vaccines are available. Breathing slimy, dirty air trapped in the mask is also unhealthy! It’s enough, there is no off ramp. After Omricon, there will, of course, be another variant. It’s past time for normalcy.
Vaccines are not available for those under 5. DH and DS were at an hour long appointment with a therapist. All masked. Two days later we get a call that therapist tested positive. DH and DS never show any symptoms. Thank goodness for masks. They should keep the mask mandate until cases are much, much lower and a vaccine is available for those under 5.
There's a big difference between wearing a mask at a 1 hour therapist appointment and for 8 hours in school. Your post is irrelevant. Masking is not preventing spread in school. Unmask them now. Here's hoping Youngkin drops the mandate, drops quarentining the healthy, and prohibits schools from establishing mask and vaccine mandates. Remember....you can still vaccinate and mask....its just no mandated!
I will not work 1:1 or otherwise in close proximity to an unmasked student. I will not tie their shoe. I will not open their milk. If you want people to work closely with your child, they need to be masked. We have our own family members to protect, too.
Teachers: please stop worrying about this. If a student shows up without a mask send them to the main office. There will not, I repeat not, be unmasked children sitting in the classroom. I’m starting to think that some of you are trolls. —From another teacher.
I would say 75% of the people posting on here saying they are teachers are trolls and they're not fooling anyone. Our school has a staff member handing masks out to unmasked kids at the front door and we've been told that will continue.
PP: Just curious, what kind of masks is the school handing out? Because, mandate or not, the type of mask and how it is worn matters. I've been wearing very tight N95s whenever possible indoors during the height of the pandemic; I only go indoors for short times, though, like grocery shopping and pharmacy and takeout pick-ups. I doubt kids could handle a well fitted N95 all day long. If they are wearing or being issued cloth or paper masks, I wonder how effective those will be. KF94s seem to be the compromise choice, though they need to be snug to be protective.
The light blue disposable masks seen as doctors offices.
