Honestly I find this mask discussion so bizarre. I use to live in the area but pre pandemic moved to MA. Sure, there is a range of comfort of what we allow our kids to do (sleepovers, sports tournaments, etc) but no one I know here argues over masks. My kids don’t care. They had a phase of school non masked this fall. Now we are back to masks bc of omicron. Not really a big deal for them or for us. We (parents, 3 kids) had omicron in Jan. Not bad at all for us. But it’s not about us. My Dad’s wife is severely at risk. I am very conscious of that. I have no problems getting the maximum in boosters allowed and masking to protect others in our society. I really have no frame of reference of how the anti maskers don’t understand this. Ps. Do those that are upset about having their kids wear masks at school believe in God? A sincere question. If that’s the case think about why you believe. Isn’t there some messaging that it’s not about you. It’s about showing grace and empathy for others?
You just stated that your kids did not have to wear masks in school over the fall until Omicron hit. Do you not understand that most people would find that reasonable? Meanwhile, here, the place you say you find bizarre because of this mask discussion- kids are masked up indefinitely without a break. There are no metrics with regard to when kids can be mask optional and when it is mandatory. There is never an option. Even with high schools having 95% vax rates and when transmission was at 3%. In FCPS, masks are part of the dress code and kids will be suspended for improper wearing of masks. And you think it’s bizarre that we talk about this? Do you believe in science? Where is your grace and empathy for expecting some reasonable metrics? Just mandatory masking always? You have no idea how little our school system has priorized education and children during this entire pandemic but you may sit there in MA and judge us.
