That factoid hurts the school district in the civil suit far more than the parents in the bogus criminal case.

Nobody said that it was illegal. It is extremely inappropriate and the fact that the parents just laughed about it speaks volumes.

Right. The argument is not whether the child broke the law. It is whether the parents showed a reckless disregard for safety. That text says yes.

Maybe schools should actually hire trained psychologists (and not just one to supervise a huge cluster of schools) rather than warm bodies with “social work” degrees or whatever it is they are hiring now.

I CANNOT believe that counselor didn’t take one look at that drawing and the internet search and go immediately to the principal/police. JFC - the kids practically sky wrote what he was about to do.

I feel like the prosecutors must have info to a lot more evidence we have not yet seen. They seem very confident in their ability to charge the parents and did it very quickly.

A decision like this usually takes more time, if there are elements of doubt.

Ah yes, a psychology degree is the magical factor that was missing here after at least a dozen people were aware of this kid's problems and failed to stop him.

You REALLY think the kid was sent to the office, two meetings on Monday and Tuesday, an emergency summoning of the parents, and a dubious order to get the kid into therapy within 48 hours happened with zero knowledge of or involvement of principal and/or two assistant principals? Because I have a bridge to sell you. The district is in total cover your *** mode as class action sharks circle. The "independent investigation" is just to buy the superintendent enough time to retire in January 2022 with a full pension and whatever life insurance, annuity, cash for hoarded sick/vacay days, and retirement parachute he has orchestrated.

Exactly. More six-figure freeloaders with degree mill credentials were needed at the district and the county level. Not enough worthless bureaucracy and layers of fiefdoms in Michigan's wealthiest county.

Social workers are much more effective in these types of situations. Despite "only" having a Masters degree.

I have nothing against psychologists or MSWs but it doesn't take any kind of degree to see all the red flags this kid was throwing up.

Social worker lol. The school resource officer should have immediately been involved. And if parents refused to bring him home, SRO could have right there taken him into custody for questioning.

Even just based on what we do know, these parents behaved egregiously. This is the most favorable fact pattern for a prosecutor in these circumstances that I've ever seen.

Parents with kids in public schools are hopeful that these kinds of kids and their parents will be dealt with, and not kowtowed to - can only hope.
