This post did not make much sense to me. Isn't the whole point to pick the best players?

You forgot to put the /s/ at the end of your post.

Huh?

Hammers and Top Caliber are good programs, but even after combining, they are not likely to be much of a factor at the WSYL level.

Hawks.[

Sorry Hawks Dad, but your 15 year old seventh grader isn’t allowed to play.

Hahahahha

3 jokes of programs. Would be shocked if they even qualify.

How about Cavalier. A few years ago they had a top ranked team that entered?

Cavalier players should go tryout for one of the teams being assembled.

Correct. Here is a shortlist of the east qualifiers. Don’t forget that the 100 mile rule really benefits the northern New Jersey teams due to high population density. I’m sure there will be a couple more coming out of the woodwork from Philly, Baltimore or Northern NJ.

BBL
Tigers xxvi
Hawks
Madlax Monuments
Black Ops

So as a minimum, one of these teams won’t be advancing and Hawks and Tigers are very strong. So if you are a strong player on Top Caliber All Stars you will get to enjoy the East qualifier but you will be watching the WSYL from the stands.

If you live in the DC area you need to be on Black Ops or Madlax to have any hope of participating Fourth of July weekend.

2027’s may make these teams but they will not be difference makers. If they were that good they would already be playing up on 2026 teams.

Your 2027 argument doesn't help the Madlax Monuments. Half of the team will be 27's.

Is that just because many of them are a year older anyway?

Yes, 2/3.

Is Cavalier still around?

I think that's different if they are really 26s anyway. I wonder why they are having additional tryouts in February.

More opportunity to collect a $75 tryout fee.

Comments like these show the ignorance by not acknowledging there are 2 (Let's say it together) 2 separate divisions within lacrosse. One is class based, which is more popular, and one is age based. There are plenty of teams and opportunities to play in one or the other or both. The only reason WSYL was popular at its onset was because it was on ESPN and had a high profile location in Denver. Its popularity decreased and will now be in lovely Germantown, MD marketed as Washington, DC. This is the only reason the Wash/Balt region has shown the current interest.
