Black Ops for WSYL

Saw this go out on a few social media feeds. Talent draw will probably be pretty awesome and I've heard pretty good things about all 3 of these programs. How will they fair against the other DMV teams in the regional qualifier?

Looks like Madlax trying to do something similar on same day. What other clubs are doing this? Hawks? Looneys?

Guarantee CM is shitting himself right now. Great idea by those clubs to work together, in the end, the players are the ones who will really benefit from the competition. Albeit, at the expense of ML. But who knows, maybe ML tries to join up with the Black Ops folks like they did with CB a few years ago.

Interesting that the clubs are combining for this. Guaranteed that NL uses this process for the 13u team to try to convince as many 13U Black ops players stay together on a reconstituted NL 2026 team for next year given how aggressive NL has been in turning over its 2024 and 2025 teams. If I were VLC 2026, I’d be a little wary of partnering with NL.

NL was burned by this process a few years ago when they entered a team borrowing a bunch of players. Those players all went back to their own clubs and took several more from the pre-existing NL team. Some of those players, and more, have since come back to NL and the results show.

The formation of a new team under an organization headed by DCE raises a few eyebrows. I wonder how it will move forward.

Don't worry, I don't see too many people wanting to spend hours traveling back and forth over the bridge to make an NL practice.

Feels like a good recruiting tool for DCE to identify players before their teams actually start in 8th grade.

I agree, there's bigger potential for NL to lose 2026 players to DCE or vice versa, than for VLC kids to leave that program to join NL or DCE.

I think the fact that the Black Ops coach won't be affiliated with any of these three programs (at least in an official sense) was designed to mitigate the poaching risk for all three clubs.

The Black Ops teams are not just for WSYL. They will turn into National grade based Teams after that and compete through high School at tournaments such as Naptown. There is no poaching going on. All three Organizations are working together and have been on board since the beginning. There is very little player movement between DXC/NL/VLC.

Another great avenue to get recruited if the family wishes to participate.

I am confused. I thought Black Ops was a Age based team. Are you saying that after WSYL they will rebuild the team to make it Grade based?

Correct. Great new revenue stream for all three programs.

What grad years are they going to field the age based Black Ops teams?

It’s age based, not grad year. So typical on age would be 25s for 14U and 26s for 13U. But in theory there could be 24s (if they were accelerated) or 27s (single holdback or just talented) and 28s (double-holdback or really talented)
