Black Ops for WSYL

Guaranteed that NL uses this process for the 13u team to try to convince as many 13U Black ops players stay together on a reconstituted NL 2026 team for next year given how aggressive NL has been in turning over its 2024 and 2025 teams. If I were VLC 2026, I’d be a little wary of partnering with NL.

All three programs are risking loss of players to the other two. It is an easy way for the better players on all three teams to meet other families and get a line on how their son would fit on the other two rosters. The programs probably have a handshake deal that they will not use Black Ops as a means to recruit each other's players, but if a player decides he prefers to make a change, I don't see how the losing team can stop him.

Agree, I think that's why they're going with a coach unaffiliated with any of the programs. Saw a comment earlier that looks like it's since been removed/deleted that implied that the coaches would come from one of the DC privates.

My money is on DCE coming out on top with potential transfers.

It is expected that the coaches are coming from Gonzaga. The unknown is whether it will be varsity HC Casey O'Neill or somebody else from within the program. If it is Casey, that is a pretty cool opportunity for 7th graders.

In terms of recruiting, at this age it is done more by parents than coaches. There will be interesting sideline conversations as the parents on the three teams get to know each other and compare the pros and cons of their programs.

Gonzaga coaching is depending on the COViD situation. The school may or may not allow participation. Hopefully it will be cleared up by July.

That would be a great experience for those kids if GZ coach ran things.

Be wary of Gonzaga and St. John's recruiting processes. If they say you can play football and lacrosse, you are either a Big Time 1A caliber football recruit they cannot keep off the field, or they are misleading you.

Not sure I follow. What do you mean? Are you suggesting that they lie to kids/families suggesting they are good when they aren't?

I'd be weary of St Johns recruiting tactics.

Casey O'Neil at Gonzaga is a class act.

Got it. Thanks.

O'Neil is a class act. Regardless, If you want to play football at Gonzaga, you have to be a transcendent athlete to play another sport and football.

St. John's is similar.

The athletic Depts. at those two schools do not really want two, let alone three, sport athletes anymore.

Specialization is the norm.

Is Black Ops open to other players not in BLC/VLC/NL or is it just kids from those teams?

There will be hell to pay if they take kids off other rosters without making them join one of these 3 programs teams first.

It is open to other players. There are players coming in town from West Coast and South to tryout. Most have ties to one of these teams. Not being advertised but others wil be there.
