She didn't go into the men's changing room because she is not a man, she is a woman. Same reason I don't go to the men's changing room.

But the argument is that no one is looking, no one should be looking, there is no sexual intent or interest, and no one should care about seeing anyone's genitalia. So if all those are valid for women in the women's locker room and the transgender woman with male genitalia, then why would it matter for the men in the men's locker room to see the transgender woman? It has to go both ways or the argument is flawed

Yes, but if there is no harm in viewing men's private parts, why couldn't she go to men's room? Seems like no harm would be done for her.

Are you a woman? Why don't you go to the men's changing room?

Not a woman.

Women have been sexually assaulted by men for a very long time, well before there were things such as locker rooms. I'm pretty confident that if a man wants to rape a woman, he will figure out how to do it without having to pose as a transgendered person at Planet Fitness.

Why make it so easy for them.

Your definition of "easy" must be different from mine.

Except that we are in a society where transgendered people are subject to violence, even death, simply because of being transgendered. If I were male-born and transitioning to female, the last place I would want to be is a gym locker room full of men. We treat women like shit in this country, including those that weren't born with female genitalia.

I'm upset having to look at fatties walk around naked in the locker room. Guess I should be able to tell them they aren't allowed in there!

Exactly!
"Hmm, I really need to rape a woman. Okay so I heard that Planet Fitness has a policy where transgendered women are allowed in the locker room. First let me go to the store and buy a wig and some lipstick so I can look like a woman. And I'll have to get some eye make-up as well. These work-out clothes won't work either, so I'll have to stop by Target and get some in the women's section. And then, when I have myself all made-up to look like a woman, I'll just hang out in the women's locker room until only one woman is there. Of course, I'll have no idea if anyone is coming because, well, it is a gym where people come and go all the time...Yeah, that's it! So glad Planet Fitness has this policy. Now would I look better in pink or red lipstck..."

Probably the woman didn't go into the men's locker room because

1. she didn't feel safe in the men's locker room.
2. she is a woman.

But in any case, you seem to be missing the important distinction between "me" and "you". I can control whether I look at other people's bits. I cannot control whether other people look at my bits.

If a cisgender woman doesn't feel safe because there is a transgender woman in the locker room, are there any actual facts to support that fear? No.

If a transgender women doesn't feel safe using men's facilities, are there any actual facts to support that fear? Yes.

Then why bother having separate changing rooms at all for men and women? Why arent men and wonen in the same changing room of no one cares?-. I think the transexual lady interviewed had the right idea. In an effort to be politically correct, many are not thinking this through. A real solution to this would be having transgender changing rooms. Let the gym put their money where their mouth is. Even rhe transgender lady interviewed had a better appreciation of the situation.

Is the purpose of separate changing rooms for men and women so that men don't have to see female genitalia and women don't have to see male genitalia? Really?

And you think that the solution is to have four changing rooms -- cisgender men, cisgender women, transgender men (who are men), transgender women (who are women)?

Pray tell, what other purpose do separate changing rooms have if not that neither males nor females feel comfortable having members of the opposite sex seeing them and their kids naked.
And why shouldnt they have 4 changing rooms. If they are so much in support of the transgender community, let them bring out their wallets and put their money where their mouth is.

Well, you tell me. I always assumed that the primary reason was to protect women from being attacked by men. You know, kind of the way that people are saying that men will dress up as women and attack women in the women's locker room. And then the secondary reason was to protect women from being seen by people who have a sexual interest in women's bodies -- back when we pretended that everybody was heterosexual.

Huh?
Now you know that the Planet Fitness men are going to cause harm to her? You can't possibly know that, any more than the women at Planet Fitness know that the transgender woman is not going to cause harm to them. You can't have it both ways, again!

Cisgender is a ridiculous Orwellian word.

Yes, there is a facts. I am a woman and I don't feel safe with someone with a penis who call himself woman. This is the fact.

Where is the fact to support that someone who looks like a man (no matter how does he call himself) feel unsafe among the same looking men?
