NP here -- wow, that's awful. Those poor women. Still, though, this one instance is not enough to make me sacrifice the safety of transwomen. |
I agree with this. Also, it's not clear to me whether the fear is "trans* women are not women" or "sexual predators could pretend to be trans* women in order to have access to women's facilities." If it's the former, this doesn't really address that. If it's the latter, this is literally the only instance I've ever even heard of where a person has affected trans* in order to gain access to victims. It also does not seem like this was the only means that this criminal used. If we're going to go down the road of "It could happen, so we should never...", then you can apply that to just about anything. People get divorced all the time, so no one should ever get married, just in case. Children die of illness or in accidents, so no one should ever have children, to prevent that tragedy. People get fired from jobs, so no one should ever be employed. The list goes on and on. I know that the PP will fixate on "BUT YOU SAID THIS NEVER HAPPENS!" and I will admit that I did not know about this one single instance. I do not think that one occurrence is enough to justify a blanket policy change for PF or prevent policy changes to bathroom legislation in other areas. |
Once is more than enough and too much for anybody....even if it's someone who's not a transwoman. |
Then you're just going to have to get rid of locker rooms altogether. And get rid of gyms too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Collier_Township_shooting |
And Chuck E Cheese! http://www.mandatory.com/2014/09/08/the-7-most-horrific-crimes-to-occur-at-chuck-e-cheeses/ |
It will be if that one instance would be your daughter. |
Oh, good grief. That is true for anything, ever. |
Until It happens to you. |
| So, for those people who think transgender people should use the locker room matching their birth genitals, you realize that means you want a transman (born a woman, but acting, dressing, and probably looking mostly like a man) to use the woman's locker room? And given that transpeople rarely if ever flash their genitals in a public locker room (and I don't know about you, but I spend much more of my time in a locker room clothed than naked or even partially naked) you might not actually know they were, in fact, a woman? |
Exactly. Those women are merely statistics for some posters unless it happens to their daughter. |
Transwomen are also people's daughters. |
Yes, they are. But their birth certificates will never agree to that no matter how much you argue. |
| PF needs to offer private separate changing bathrooms. Problem solved. |
You are wrong about that. http://www.lambdalegal.org/know-your-rights/transgender/changing-birth-certificate-sex-designations |
Or they can offer what they do with the policy that they have and those who have an issue with it can go to one of the dozens of other gym chains around the country. Problem solved. It's a free market and everyone is supposed to go to a facility that they are comfortable with. If PF's policy isn't comfortable for you, find another gym. |
