Suppose you take a turn answering the phones in a public school? Within two days you will have talked to the dumbest people in the world, those who can’t find the simplest bit of information for themselves, and be cursed at all day long. Then you will e one of those “nasty secretaries”.

I do agree there comes a time when some secretaries should reflect on where they are in life and if they want to proceed with the job. Yes, people can be idiots and unable to find themselves out of a box but you have chosen a job in customer service. Our elementary admin secretary has a heart of gold deep down but really comes off negative and rude to many parents who come in to our office. Can be a bit cringe worthy at times.

Our secretaries are so patient, but customer service in the private sector is scarcely available, of low competence, and seldom polite. One just made a mistake that will cost me almost $800 and I have no recourse. This ends our entire extended family’s decades relationship with the company over an employee they pay minimum wage. And people do talk about bad funeral home experience when friends, neighbors, and coworkers have a loss. That $800 is going to cost them so much in the end.

The teacher/child molester that administrators had known about for years harmed many children yet not one MCPS staff has been held accountable in any way.

MCPS seems to be ignoring the Algebra 2.0 failures. No one is taking accountability or even admitting this is problem. They are all patting themselves on the backs for just giving kids all an extra 15% points.

The planning group always brags about they get the numbers right all the time yet there is massive imbalance, overcrowding and crumbling facilities all over MCPS. In the same breath that they brag about knowing the numbers they also disavow themselves of any responsibility for overcrowding because who knew all these people were going to move into the area????

What does it take to get fired in MCPS or are these just life long positions with no performance expectations?

No one is fired. Even sexual predators aren’t fired. Look how this forum covers up sexual predators in MCPS. Montgomery County
is an advertiser on this forum and they pay
to keep MCPS out of the news. It takes a village to cover up crimes and Montgomery County and this forum are all in.

I guess this theory will get put to the test with whats going on at Shady Grove MS

Being unable to report to work because you're in jail for taking liberties with your students apparently does the trick. So I guess the deal is that you can pretty much do whatever, but if you get arrested and are thus unable to report to work, well then they have no choice but to let you go.

Arrest does not equal fired. Vigna was never fired.

The turnover seems a lot higher than federal gov employees. I mean they barely show up to work and draw a check.

When you have secretaries as rude as you do at MCPS it is a sign of a culture problem. Some CEOs call the secretaries the most important job in the building because they form the first impression. Really says more about the leadership...

I know of one teacher who was dismissed for lack of skill at our elementary in 2011-2012. Turns out her classroom had high levels of lead in the water fountain! So it was the school poisoning the kids that probably made the other classroom appear so much better on standardized tests.

At any given time the county has a ton of teachers out for paid administrative leave for various allegations. That stuff drags on forever so maybe they hope people will just get demoralized and leave on their own.

Being a secretary is hard in MCPS. There are a lot of Type-A parents used to getting what they want or parents with emotional problems. When your kid has a problem these parents can be very hard to deal with and often know how to push buttons. Vice principals have to deal with these parents as the next step up the chain. Always hard to keep everyone happen.

Mcps deserves any and all bad press they get. I just don't know how they figured out how to shutdown parental communication on this board. The shady masterbator thread just got shut down. Greasy job mcps scum.

It's a private board. Not MCPS' to do with as they please.

I think this is right. The only way people get fired is if they do not or are unable to report to work.
