That sounds like a very good salary to me. What is take home pay?

It IS a good salary. I am grateful to have a job with good benefits too. I am a fed, as well, and make around that. I don't know too many women in my neighborhood pulling in $200,000. And if they are, they don't see their kids much.

I just posted about staying in education.

I make a little over $100K but the hours are good for my kids, and the benefits are fantastic.

So when you look at retirement and health benefits, as well as your annual leave, your package is much better than most in private. And to be honest, as an older mother, I'd rather spend time with my kids.

The money can come later, but you can't go back in time.

Sour grapes. I'm making 200k and work 40 hours a week.

$255k in finance. Age 33. One child and one on the way. Very manageable hours, always home before 6pm. Did a brief, miserable stint in government and could not be more grateful I was able to leave. FWIW, neither my parents, nor DH's parents went to college, but we were both incredibly fortunate to have access to great public universities (undergrad and grad school), as well as amazing mentors.

with commute?

Factor that in and you really don't see your kids much. plenty of women making that much while paying for before and/or after care

It's a tough life, peeps. And I highly doubt it's as glorious as some of you make it out to be.

I'll take my $90K; at least I'm home for pick up with summers off.

no sour grapes here . . .

So what you don't commute for your 90k? So what 45 hours with commute and a month off a year plus federal holidays.

My commute is 20 minutes one way.

I have summers off - 8 weeks, plus winter and spring break AND plenty of other holidays.

I work in the school system but am no longer in the classroom. It's great! And I'd be making more had I not taken leave when my dad fell ill.

just saying that sometimes top dollar ain't all that when you can't see your kids - And I like being with my kids and doing something good for society.

That's nice. This thread is about women who make $200k, not $90k. You don't so go away.

With her HHI, she can probably afford to live close to her work place, and has no need for a 45 mn commute.

Not PPs, but I make $235K, work generally 8-5:00 with a completely flexible schedule, and am less than 10 minutes from home even in rush hour. Could be worse.

How is the money going to come later if you're already an older mother? You going to start making big bucks at 55 or 60?

It's just something those who opt out, or are low earners, say to make themselves feel better. Same goes for the teacher.

No, probably not. You are assuming c.50 percent effective tax rate? Your real gross equivalent is probably closer to 160 or 170K.
Sorry, but you should not be participating in this thread.

This is interesting. Someone at 160k would pay only 30k in all federal/state taxes, SS, Medicare, payroll etc. ?

SS, Medicare, and payroll don't count because while these are entitlements that you are not paying into, they are also entitlements which you won't recieve as staff of an IFI. So it is only Federal and State income tax you should take account of.
