What is wrong with what I said? |
And what? It was a response to PP's statement that the Pope is against this administration's actions. On immigration, yes and probably SNAP and housing assistance changes but this administration and the catholic Church are lockstep on certain things. |
Yes. Church run mammy and baby homes and orphanages are horror houses https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/9-000-children-died-irish-mother-baby-homes-report-finds-n1253862 |
the Catholic church is way behind on reproductive rights and women's rights. But it is the Catholic church. They move at a snail's pace in terms of making progress in that regard. It remains true that this is not a conservative Pope. He has ministered to the poor and stood up for poor migrants as Jesus instructed us all to do. |
LOL...get off Fox. |
Trump sees this as a great honor having an American pope. I’m sure he’s taking credit for it. |
I'm PP. One of my relatives died in a Catholic orphanage. The abuse in orphanages was horrific. https://childusa.org/how-vermont-handled-abuse-at-catholic-st-josephs-orphanage/ |
I have never heard this in my life, relationship of US as a power and the choice of a pope. Where is the separation of church and state in this theory? I really dislike when religious leaders, ie the pope, force their views into politics; it is similar to celebrities getting involved in politics - they don't live in reality. |
JD Vance is a fake catholic. You should listen to him explain why he converted to Catholicism from Protestant Christianity. It’s quite obvious it was because the conservative legal thought leaders are disproportionately catholic. He really just becomes whoever he needs to be in the moment for power. |
DP. I don’t get this rationale. He is a different religion and has the views of that religion. That’s not some sort of gotcha. |
I think it’s kind of the opposite. I think that the US is seen as the main dominating force in world affairs and setting the culture of the world and so it’s hoped that by selecting a pope from America, we will be more likely to follow him and fall in line, and the world will follow us. |
The point is that people are trying to say he is liberal and totally different from Vance, but he isn't. There is no gotcha but there is no great victory either. being on the side of the poor and immigrants is normal for a Pope so it's not surprising he doesn't agree with Vance and Trump on that. He is less liberal than Francis in terms of social issues. |
However, I agree with Vance, I feel it is more Christian to prioritize your family than someone else. If the pope feels it should be the opposite, I disagree with that position. |
This. To suggest he's more liberal than Vance and that he's 100% more moral than the 2 idiots of T and V is not saying much. We are talking about the antiChrist and his number 2. I mean seriously? That's a low bar for a comparison of morals. I'm going to suggest that 99% of the Cardinals would fit this description of being better people than T and V. However, if you strip down beliefs and policies, Francis was undoubtedly one of the most liberal Catholics and Popes in recent memory. I mean he chose the name of Francis, a saint. Leo is a pope's name. Not saying Leo was a bad pope but just saying, he's going to be somewhat conservative. He does not believe women have any rights to engage in the Vatican hierarchy which to me is very non-progressive. I can't get down with organized religion because at it's heart, I don't believe it's sincerely true to the acceptance that Christ stood for. I'm very spiritual and believe faith is extremely important. Francis was the first pope that turned me toward the Church. Leo will not be able to do that. He is 100% not as liberal as Francis - how conservative he will be remains to be seen. Just saying that it's not hard to be more liberal than T and V at all ![]() |
Well, which one is a good Samaritan, helps the poor, comforts the lowly, and welcomes the immigrant? I think you have your answer as to who is good. |
