He spent 20 years in Peru and that's where he became a bishop (instead of in the US). He then went to the Vatican where he was placed in powerful positions in the Curia.

This guy is a rebuke of MAGA and only an American could do it. It's an interesting moment in time.

Peruvians are white.

He's not Peruvian, he's from Chicago and became a naturalized citizen of Peru after working and living there for 2 decades.

That makes him both a Peruvian and an American.

But he's still white.

I am hardly a MAGA but all this does is cement the US further as a global leader? What are you even talking about?

Too early to tell, but if he takes any of the core humanitarian stances of his predecessor, a showdown looms with Trump and U.S. foreign policy.

Tend to agree with this. It's not about the US losing power, it's about taming that (current) power with humane values.

Agree. The US is still the most powerful country in the world. We're just reeling from very poor leadership since Obama left office. Leadership matters.

The world admired Obama. Trump, not so much. The US is losing global influence under Trump.

Most Americans also considered Obama, followed by Clinton, as one of the best POTUS.

Thx for your personal option and theory. Noted.

Noted as bizarre and total BS.

Way to attempt to make up something ridiculous about someone’s awesome promotion and celebration.

No. It is largely understood that the US would never produce a pope until it was no longer the top power.

Wrong and wrong.

Look at the field and needs.

Sure, OP doesn’t know jack. Just leave them that way.

I’m a practicing Catholic Democrat and also am happy with the choice. Pope Francis liked him and appointed him to significant positions. In his first address, he talked about building bridges and God loving everyone.

To the non ignorant this is a great choice.

Hallelujah

After I saw them do some shenanigans with birth certificates to get two more people a vote, I figured we would end up with a transgender pope.

So they did all they could do to keep a Black man out? Sounds racist.

The world respected Obama and the POTUSs who came before him. They laugh at Trump and Biden. How many other world powers have ever elected 80 year olds? Zero.

Trump as president and an American pope is giving end times antichrist and false prophet.

GTFO, no one fetishized abortion. Your hyperbole is disgusting.

The mobile abortion clinic outside of the DNC was a nice touch.

They were there to provide all kinds of medical care, not simply abortions. But I know that does not feed into your fantasy

They were there to provide free medication abortions, vasectomies and emergency contraception. Don't act like they were doing chronic disease management or other care - stop feeding your own fantasy.
