Obama gave almost no raises.

Not true. Are you a fed? Their was a small 2.5% raise in 2010, but in 2011 and 12 there was a freeze due to the recession. Private sector wasn’t giving out raises and the deficit was out of control. Obama proposed a small insignificant raise in 2013, but Congress said NO, we were still in a freeze and deficit reduction. Government also took money back from employees that year by temporary layoffs. Employees gradually began receiving raises in 2014, but nothing compared to private sector employees.

I am glad next year will be my last year to worry about this, as I will have received that magical age to retire. I’ve been told the cola raises are greater than the raises received for a 40-hour work week.

This new agency is so efficient they selected 2 people to run it!

Mush is looking for super high in individuals to donate 80-hours a week of their life to this magnificent agency.

Or move on to jobs that pay better

If there are jobs that pay better for which you’re qualified, why are you in the federal government in the first place? I’m not trying to snarky- this is an honest question.

Many considerations that vary by individual. Sometimes it is a dual career decision. Sometimes it is better work-life balance. Sometimes it is the work environment has an actual HR and you can't actually do shitty things.

A lot of people are also interested in the mission.

In short, you don’t work much and you want a job that protects you while you slack off.

I welcome DOGE.

Np. I want to work 40 hour weeks. I absolutely don’t slack off and am a high performer.

What I would like to do away with are many of the job protections. It shouldn’t take a Herculean act by a manager to fire someone.

Apart from that, I really like my mission and what I do. I work directly with the public.

DOGE will be a nonprofit that advises the government for a fee. Its not like he needs hard data to make decisions, its just knives out?

I personally don’t like this. I believe they need to divest. It’s a conflict of interest just to advise the government at such a high level and own certain stocks. The prohibitions on stocks at my agency are high. Even my parents and children can’t own those stocks. I wish Congress were subject to such restrictions m.

Do you know how many nonprofit think tanks provide advice/proposals/suggestions to the government for free? Think Center for American Progress.
Do you know how many consultant firms are paid to make these proposals? Think McKinsey and PWC.

Do you have the same issue with all of them? That is what this is.

And don't get me wrong. I hate this too. But it is just a more terrifying version of something that has existed forever, on both sides of the aisle.

For me it is impact. I am a physicist. Turned down a job at 2x salary recently because I truly believe that we need competent scientists to set the physics agenda. Otherwise we will lose the tech competition in the long run. Do you want people who don’t have any clue about microelectronics making microelectronics investment choices?

I’m not worried at all. After going after waste ($200 lightbulbs) and “woke” expenditures (for talking points) the only thing they can really do (that won’t get bogged down in litigation for at least 4 years) is RIFs. And those would take out low performers and newbies.

I will just point and laugh. DOGE is a joke anyway.

DOGE or no DOGE they are coming for your jobs. And some of you will be unemployed. If anyone thinks this time around they will leave the federal workforce intact then you are not paying attention to their determination.

And i hope you recognize that their determination to destroy the federal workforce will impact more than federal employees. If large amounts of jobs are moved from an area it can also affect the housing market when people move. That will also impact schools. Local taxes will need to be raised. The medical research, claims processing, safety inspections, etc. that the fired feds did will slow down or stop and that will have an impact.

The excitement you have about others being unemployed may fade when their unemployment impacts you. Be careful what you wish for.

yep that was my first thought too.

GAO just issues reports. They have no bite.

I'm not sure "DOGE" will either, but we'll see.

But that is the point. Only Congress can really fix things. We already have GAO looking into this stuff, so why duplicate efforts instead of expecting Congress to do their jobs and fix things? The DOGE itself is the epitome of inefficiency.

It really is pathetic. They are forming an agency that is not actually part of the government but calls itself that, to duplicate things that actual government agencies do. And it is headed not by one person but by two, because it is so efficient.

Will my taxpayer money pay for the Doge?

Yes, they’ll likely get some inflated fee from OMB for their “consulting” services.

And if not this, then DOGE will operate in a way to tweak regulations in the favor of the billionaires running it. So they will manipulate the government to their benefit somehow. Anyone who thinks billionaires give a crap about the taxpayers should come see me about a bridge I’d like to sell them.

I don't understand how Vivek could possibly have any day in gutting drug regulations and regulators when he has massive and direct financial interest in his own pharmaceutical companies. Why should anyone listen to a pharma bro talk about refucing drug oversight when they stand to profit from pushing crappy drugs?

Vivek and Elon keep asking for resumes from the best and brightest...they are UPenn and Harvard grads who I would imagine will look to bring on lots of the Ivy and other elite school grads that the masses decry.

They are looking to cut $2 Trillion...eliminate the entire federal workforce (unlikely) and you save $300BN.

Won't the best and brightest go after all the programs that don't make any sense and will devastate all the Red areas that voted for Trump? Disability (massive fraud), Agricultural Subsidies (WSJ gave a list of agencies that should be eliminated...actually not that many, but Dept of Agriculture was high on their list), etc.

Wouldn't it be f**king hysterical if the end result of this is to eliminate farm subsidies, completely overhaul disability and medicare fraud and generally destroy all the rural areas that voted for Trump.

I think the biggest cut will be from the contracting companies charging $100k for a light bulb, a pure corruption.
