DOGE ... Elon and Vivek ... and results by 2026

Anonymous
for long-time Feds, a question for you: what is your take on trying to dismantle programs and agencies with these two at the helm, working out of a private company setup ... like for real... I'm guessing Elon will put up the money to set up this company and then hire some of his wicked smart people that work for him in his other companies but even with talent in place, we are talking program data, procurement data, administrative data ... data on top of data ... some of which require a pretty high security clearance and not just public trust. does anyone see results by 2026??? maybe Education goes away but if that's the main win, it would say it would be a resounding failure. what's your take?

I am worried about FERS and CPRS.

This seems like a joke to pump up Doge coin for a few yrs. It’ll result in them writing fancy reports which anyone can implement or not. Sure DJT will let them go after some low hanging fruit - programs no longer in existence but still funded etc - to show Maga how much he saved. But I don’t think this results in the massive - dump half the Feds - changes that Maga is cheering for that Feds obviously fear.

It’s pretty simple for him to reduce the federal work force by 10% just by not recommending any annual pay increases for the next four years.

Or a lot more than 10%.

I think agency leads figure out a way to keep top performers in this scenario. This isn't the first presidency to halt pay increases. So, sure a certain percentage will leave (certainly I think a lot of attorneys, esp in finreg space) but there are so many Feds in the GS 14 and under and so many superfluous positions even in the finregs, where you wont see attrition because for these folks, getting a job in the private sector is a pretty hard threshold.

+1 I see this as an issue. FERS can certainly go away for those entering service and I wonder what they will do for those who are already on FERS/CPRS. The only thing that we have going for us is that Congress is also on CPRS and FERS.

My prediction: Elon will lose interest and move on to something else within a short time. He got his goal of buying himself Trump’s ear.

Obama gave almost no raises.

Ironic they plan to decrease federal workforce by starting a new agency.

This new agency is so efficient they selected 2 people to run it!

My thought too. He has so much going on with Tesla/Twitter/Space X I think the most he does is steering some contracts his way or cutting red tape related to those contracts in a way that benefits him.

No pay increases for BOTH of Obama’s two terms.

Get an original line—Elizabeth Warren already made headlines with this witty retort.
But my guess is that Elon will provide the data support mechanism and Vivek will do the analysis and implementation.
