A made up term. Like latinx. |
| This is funny. I am 50 years old and have never, ever heard this term before seeing this post today. And I have 3 "wasian" cousins in their 40s. |
| Gen Z uses this. Just because it’s newer doesn’t mean it’s not valid and needs to be questioned for 9 pages lol |
+1 |
Gen Z is overusing this word. |
I'm curious to hear your enlightened theory on etymology. I'm sure it's devastatingly clever and well considered. Hey old people, while we're here, let's also discuss kids on lawns, the terrible music of today, how athletes were tougher back in the day, and how many snow-covered miles you had to walk to get to school. It's a wonder some of you troglodytes have even found the internet. |
| Reminds me of Elmer Fudd... wabbits |
Hapa means "half". In Hawaii (and perhaps on the West Coast now, its commonly used to refer to someone who is half White and half Asian. "Hapa haole" (half white) is the longer term used. "Haole" is the word locals in Hawaii use for White people. FWIW, I grew up in Hawaii and am part Native Hawaiian. |
I tend to think most are crazy attractive or not at all. Not much in-between. |
I’m a college student, wasian has been a thing my whole life, not sure what the moms are confused about. Wasian, Blasian, and mixed- for some reason no other ethnicity has this terminology lol |
It comes from Asian Americans who acknowledge the differences between white and black Asians compared to them. Parents would be horrified if they saw the racial categorizations of college kids today |
DS is Gen Z. Never heard this word until this post. His college roommate is "waisian" according to this post. Have never heard him use the term either. |
+10000000000 ppl here are old AF |
You can find copious TikTok’s from wasian people. Your DS may just be…fully tuned out? That would be strange tbh. I don’t know how we’re debating such a ubiquitous term- maybe your DS isn’t around many Asian people? In California, you can’t go a stones throw without someone describing what kind of Asian someone is. |
| Good question. My wasian kids aren’t in college yet, but they do seem to gravitate towards other wasian, asian, and other -sian kids, of which there are many in our area. My daughter has only a few white friends, but then again, there aren’t that many white kids in her school anyway. |
