Waisian is such an insulting term.

It is right up there with LatinX in terms of eye rolling cringe worthy virtue signaling.

West coast calls it hapa. I first heard "Whasian" from my kids who went to MCPS. They are whasian.

Hapa is the correct term.

Wasian is a made up fake term. It is insulting

This is the most idiotic post ever.

Hapa is the non offenive, correct term, used by actual biracial asians with white and asian heritage.

Hapa has been the common and culturally sensitive term for at least 50 to 60 years or more.

It's true their best friends in high school have been Asian, but in college it's been more mixed. Maybe it's because our school system has a lot of Asians, and their colleges have fewer Asians, relatively speaking? They don't go out of their way to seek out Asians or whites, is what I mean.

White/asian mixed people don't use wasian because it borders on offensive.

White/asian people use "hapa"

Hapa originated in Hawaii. Has it now been co-opted by incels?

It means part-Hawaiian.

No.

Hapa means half asian and half white.

Half Japanese/half white
Half Hawaiian/half white

CA calls it hapa, Pacific NW here and we called it mixed. No one I know between San Diego and Vancouver calls us Wasian. Fascinated that it’s a thing.

Wasian is not a thing, except among the white liberals of DC who need to give everyone a made up name for their perceived grouping.

No, you're wrong. It is a Hawaiian word that the Native Hawaiians used to describe Native Hawaiian mixed with another race. Yet another thing stolen from the Hawaiians.

The word “hapa” is the Hawaiian translation for English word “half”, meaning “half white.” The phrase was used by native Hawaiians to describe the mixed offspring of white settlers and islanders.. and later to include Asians and other Pacific Islanders.

Have you heard of Blasian? That’s a thing too! Kamala!

It's a terrible portmanteau. I mean it actually has the full word asian in it.

Why not aishite? Or asiack

No it doesn’t. Phonetically maybe. But the word “Asian” doesn’t appear with those letters in order.

Calm down, gramps. “Wasian” is legit if that’s what those in the community want to be called. Terms do evolve over time. For example: Negro, Black, African American.

My understanding Is that this is not referencing mixed race, this is kids that are white that are unusually strong in STEM and hang with the Asian kids that are very strong in STEM. Heard it 15 Years ago from a young cousin on the west coast whose Asian friends called her that.
