Waisians on campus

Not denying your experience, as it makes sense to call an "honorary" Asian "wasian", but white-asian mixed people do call themselves Wasian. It's extremely documented.

Waisian is phonetic corruption that some people use, more often in the "weeaboo" sense you are describing,

My DCs are whipanic and they tend to gravitate towards any Spanish speakers.

Herpanic or Thempanic.

This happens whenever very different looking people mate. Shocking!

What percentage of the HS is Wasian, vs what percentage of the college?

Term was in use at TJ 20 years ago at least. But I haven’t heard it since.

oh weird. i never thought about that.
meaning one super Asian looking kid and one super white kid?

Or spanish/middle eastern looking.

Genetics are interesting.

The girls tend to look more Mexican with lighter skin, which kinda makes sense because most Mexicans are mixed with native American blood, and they are descendants from Asia.

West coast calls it hapa. I first heard "Whasian" from my kids who went to MCPS. They are whasian.

CA calls it hapa, Pacific NW here and we called it mixed. No one I know between San Diego and Vancouver calls us Wasian. Fascinated that it’s a thing.

Wasian is not a thing, except among the white liberals of DC who need to give everyone a made up name for their perceived grouping.

This is not a DC thing.

Ask your kids.

Just asked. My HS daughter said everyone uses Wasian. Not at all an insult. She never heard of HAPA.

We are in the Seattle area. I definitely hear the term wasian. Never heard hapa used. My dd’s high school friend group is mostly wasian (5/7 kids, my dd is Chinese). My other dd has a mix of wasian and non-wasian friends. We live in an area that is almost 50% Asian so there’s also plenty of Chinese-Indian kids and Indian-white kids.

OP - please define what you mean by the term and your child finding more peers in college?
