I don’t understand why anyone would want a monopoly, whether it’s ECNL or GA or anything else.

I think it’s mainly ECNL parents whose kids play on the crappiest ECNL teams, or don’t get much playing time.

So instead of saying what team they rep, they just use ECNL as a whole.

Insecure for sure

I don't have anything bad to say about GA. I do agree that another league is helpful. I don't want a monopoly. But be real. GA is far away from an equal league. They are way behind. This announcement will not help in the short term or even medium term. top kids are 90% in ECNL. That will continue.

Let me ask you a question...

Not even thinking about leagues or recruiting and you had a choice between a club that can get your kid into college. Or a club that can get your kid into college or they can play professionally. (if they're good enough) Which one would you choose?

Most people would choose the second option that allows for college or pro. This is what MLS Next provides. ENCL only provides a springboard for college.

This is what makes GA partnering with NWSL such a threat to girls ECNL.

Let me ask you a question, where does NWSL acknowledge this partnership at all?

how many teenage girls are going to sign pro contracts next year before starting college? maybe 3-4. They are all on a YNT already and everyone knows who they are. It's not like your average ECNL or GA player has a chance here.

ECNL not only needs to worry about the impact this membership will have in regards to GA rising ECNL will also need to contend with the Special Olympics and their US Soccer membership also announced alongside GA:

They're probably dripping the details out slowly to smoke out any clubs thinking about defecting from GA.

They're also probably waiting for ECNL to make an announcement to return volley with another announcement of their own.

based on this board so far, this will mean that no ECNL players can volunteer with Special Olympics, only GA.

In theory this sounds good but in reality 99.9% of players that join Nwsl are from college. Only 0.001% of players would benefit from a homegrown academy but this would require nwsl clubs to develop academies. Only 4-5 have them and most participate in ecnl. No news of nc courage pulling out of ecnl for ga. So if this big news here is that nwsl clubs should only look at ga clubs for pre-college recruiting vs taking the best players available, I have some beachfront property in Ohio to sell to you.

NWSL is not the only pro women’s league starting in August https://www.uslsuperleague.com/news/2024/02/09/usl-super-league-receives-division-one-sanctioning-from-u-s-soccer-and-confirms-field-of-teams-for-inaugural-season/

It’s an unknown at this point but in a year or two NWSL could be in a much weaker position. Impossible to say how GA/ECNL/NWSL will come out of all this
