And the drip, drip of corruption keeps leaking out. |
Damn straight I pooh-pooh it. Anyone who thinks that a politician kissing a baby is automatically a child welfare advocate or that one who can imitate a simple rhythmic motion is a man of the people is full of poo-poo [dumb pun, but it makes the point]. I'm not attacking Fenty here, he's doing what he's got to do, but don't make it into something significant. |
The sad fact of the matter is that most of the people in Ward 8 do not read the newspaper or watch the news on television. For them, dancing like a brother is enough. |
Ugh 14:54. You are SFOS |
If what you mean is that they don't read the Washington Post, then they are probably better informed then those who do read it. Or, at least less misinformed. |
No. I am just stating a sad fact. |
I don't see the corruption here. Corruption to me means that the law was broken. The article states: There are three ways to obtain a professional engineer's license in the District: passing the exam, having already obtained a license in another state, or for eminence. . Soooo, Fenty awarded someone an engineer's license for eminence. Not the first time this has happened, and other Mayors have done it. Which it was within his legal discretion to do. You may not agree with his decision, but corrupt is certainly a stretch. |
You must either be as white as I am, or so Fenty-ized that you did not notice that one of the guys had to show him the moves and that he was as much of a natural up there, or holding the hand of the twirling senorita, as I would be. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just think it's patronizing of you to think people in Ward 8 are any more likely to base their vote on his dancing than you would be. |
Yes, I must be Fenty-ized, because I thought he looked pretty good up there. So did the residents of Ward 8. I do not see anyone showing him the moves at all; he actually executes them brilliantly. And he's very sexy. |
OK. I just watched it again. There was indeed, a brief demo. I wouldn't say they "taught" him the moves. And once the demo is over and he let's it fly, man, watch the man move. He's better than the rest of the band. |
The corruption was placing your stooges on the board who in turn granted a license to legally practice engineering in the city. This same individual failed the exam not twice, not thrice, but seven different times. He was not equipped. Once the license was bestowed upon this individual, he was able to receive those sweet, sweet contracts that Fenty illegally bestowed upon this person. Keep making excuses. |
Well, yes, as a matter of fact, they did. Especially considering the fact that, as another poster articulated so well, the word "privilege" is often code for "white". The notion that most Whites do not work hard for what they earn and are not entitled to enjoy the fruits of their labor is bigoted and offensive. If someone were to say that most Blacks don't work hard and don't deserve much, that poster would probably be exposed, banned, and forced to flee the country and live their life in some cave in order to stay alive. I got into a good college, paid my way, studied hard, and did well. Then I got in to a good graduate school, paid my way, studied hard, and did well. I work a fairly difficult job in the public sector; our family income is a whopping 150K, and we own a modest townhouse in a not-particularly glitzy neighborhood in Ward 3. We chose this townhouse in this area so that: 1) our children could go to a very good public elementary school and, hopefully, if Michelle Rhee is given enough time, continue on to a good public middle school and high school; 2) I could walk my little dog at night and feel relatively safe, and 3) there was a decent park up the street. Wow. I sure am greedy, aren't I? I sure haven't done anything to earn this living-on-the-hog lifestyle that I have, did I? Nope. I only got what I have because I am White. And it should be stripped from me in order to right a moral wrong. Yes, I am deeply offended. |
I have a cousin who failed the accounting exam 9 times, passed on the 10th, and is now regarded as a good accountant. Go figure. Some people don't do well on standardized tests. The individual licensed by Fenty has a master's degree; he's got several years of experience in D.C. government, and he's got substantial experience in the public and the private sector over several years, including being a former chief building inspector for the District government. Doesn't sound like an abuse of discretion to award him a license on the basis eminence to me. How exactly has Fenty [b]illegally[u] bestowed a contract on this man? Where is the evidence for that? That the contracts may be sweet is granted. I'm much more concerned with whether those contracts are executed in a competent manner. And who are you to make judgments on the qualifications of others? You just wrote,
Your use of tense is abominable. Should we ban you from all professions on this basis? |
I think it was a brilliant move for Gray to hire you to pose as a Fenty supporter. A few more posts and I'll not only be supporting Gray, but changing the name of this website to "DC Urban Moms and Dads for Gray". |
What? Her writing is terrible. Her use of tense is atrocious. My high school English teacher would have had a heart attack. And this person is pissing on some engineer who got a license based on eminence??
Fuck that, man. What an asswipe. |
