It doesn't look like the "salsa" thing is going to happen:
We want to extend a thank you note to all the Mayoral candidates that attended the Latino Mayoral Forum. On July 24th, about 100 people battled the heat and came out in person, and 36 participated on-line to hear the Mayoral candidates’ plan for Latinos in Washington DC. The big absent was Mayor Adrian Fenty. It is upsetting to us that we had changed the date of the forum from July 17th to July 24th to accommodate the Mayor, because we knew members of the community wanted to hear from the Mayor, even if under the condition of a candidate. His campaign had confirmed his participation in the forum. Not surprising, the campaign office is trying to play a game to excuse the Mayor’s constant neglect of the Latino Community. http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/citydesk/2010/07/26/%c2%bfdonde-esta-el-alcalde-del-distrito-de-columbia-adrian-fenty/. Of the many times we have called on Mayor Fenty, only twice have we been able to get an affirmative response and an actual show. The first time was to attend the 2006 DC Latino Mayoral Forum as candidate for Mayor; the second time was to collect a check for $2000.00 we gave him when we endorsed him, also in 2006, shortly after the Latino Mayoral Forum. After that, regardless of the reason, our calls have been denied or ignored. Our members’ endorsement vote on July 24th, 2010 of 37 votes for Vincent C. Gray and 1 for Adrian Fenty is the way some members of the Latino community are beginning to manifest their frustration and anger towards an administration that constantly neglects and disrespects it. We’d like to remind members and friends that in 2006, when we hosted the 2006 DC Latino Mayoral endorsement, then leading candidate Linda Cropp, did the same thing (didn’t show). Every candidate showed to the forum, including Candidate Fenty (who also won the endorsement). Linda Cropp received 2 votes. Here are just a few of the DIDN’T SHOW from mayor Fenty in our community. - On November 2, 2006, after having won the Mayoral Primary, we invited Fenty to a town hall meeting with the Latino Community. Over 500 Latinos showed to Carlos Rosario School for a presentation of Latino issues in the city. Fenty –DIDN’T SHOW. - On January 17, 2008, we hosted the only Latino Presidential Gala in DC, guests included members of Congress, musicians and movie stars, local elected leaders, etc., where many of our local prominent Latinos were honored. Fenty –DIDN’T SHOW. - On, March 8, 2010 a community meeting was organized with the President of El Salvador, whose community is the largest Latino community in DC, at Bell Multicultural School, we thought he would come, but –Fenty –DIDN’T SHOW. - On June 17th, 2010, the community wanted a meeting with the Mayor. The request was channeled through various sources, including the Caucus, to get the Mayor to meet with members of the Latino community. A similar request came in for a meeting with the Council Chair, which took place. We are still waiting for the meeting requested with the Mayor. We look forward to working hard with a united community and a loud voice that sends a clear message to Mayor Fenty that as a community we deserve as much respect as any other community in this city. We ask every member of this community and friends to stand with us in solidarity and also DON’T SHOW FOR FENTY. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000713502141&ref=search. 23:04 Do you work for the DC government? Either way, that's a crazy story. |
I think that everyones point has been well taken. However what about Cathy Lanier everytime an article hits the paper she says that she knows nothing about it. I will give you some example. When the police officer pulled out his gun during the snow ball fight back in 2010 what happen to that officer. I will tell you he is back on the street still pulling out his gun. Also the intoxilizer machine they have been broke since 2004 and thats all of the districts 1 through 7. It seems to me that when the good officers come forward about things that they see, they get fired and have to fight to geet there jobs back, just ask me how I know
|
Yes I do I am a DC cop and I see it all from officers violating people rights. To writing false reports and even charging overtime that they never worked. A friend of mine was fired because an official told him to arrest a person that he did not like and to also make up a charge. When the officer refused to do so, the official wrote him up and put case# on him and had internal affairs investigate him and next thing I know he was fired for not disobeying a direct order.

How? |
Well since fenty can't support the Latino community then why should you all support him. If it came down to a duck or fenty, for my vote to count, I'm voting for the duck. He has lied to the people of the city. I can bet you that when that snow storm hit in 2010, I can asure that his street was cleared first he probably had the snow pile camped outsied his house for the hole week. he is a gump

Wow 23:04, in another thread you posted the exact same post and said that you were not a DC government worker. So, which one is it. Are you really a member of MPD or not. If so, you should know that MPD employees are DC government workers. Get your stories to match before posting. |
In the thread listed below, Fenty in freefall, you stated that you were not and have never been a DC government employee. Are you just making this crap to suit your objectives? http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/115807.page |
[I passed on this message to others and the few that have responded said that they will not support fenty

Not the same poster. I believe the police officer did not realize the question about being a DC government employee was directed to a specific poster. The officer may have thought it was a general question to everyone. At any rate, the other poster was very anti-Gray and this one is very anti-Fenty. Hopefully, a duck is also running so that they have someone for whom to vote. |
Fenty lost the straw poll in his home Ward. Lost is putting it kindly, actually.
Interesting. |
Not for lack of trying or lack of interest. The place was packed. The forum was in a large auditorium, but most of us could not get in because it was packed. There was a half block of voters, or more, lined up outside when they blocked new arrivals from joining it at 9 pm. Fenty and Gray, as well as other candidates, had their supporters out in force, with amplification! When Fenty walked in, the shouts of "Four more years" were deafening! It echoed in Spanish at times, along with "Si se puede" bringing back 2008.. Both Vince Gray and Kwame Brown won big, but did not quite hit the 60% required for endorsement. Nevertheless, beating Fenty in Ward 4 has got to be mighty pleasing to Gray. Phil Mendelson won, but Michael Brown (the Shadow Senator, not the Councilmember) came in a pretty close second; Clark Ray (a Ward 4 resident) was a distant third. Brown, IMHO, was a beneficiary of name confusion. Anyhow, the crowd scene certainly seems to portend a big turnout in September. Whatever else you say about the candidates, they have the attention of the voters. |
Excuse my typo; it was 8 pm when voting was scheduled to end and new arrivals were blocked. |
I lost faith in Rhee when she fired 300+ teachers (some of whom had just been hired!), claiming "budget issues" ... then "found" the money a few months later and called the teachers she fired predators.
Other than Rhee, what reason does Fenty have to justify re-election? |
Looking forward to Gray's "economic plan" which consists entirely of "blue-ribbon panels", study groups, and bureacratic bloviating.
"Vincent Gray: Death By 1,000 Cuts Now" But at least Maryland residents who have been identified as ineffective teachers won't have to worry about job security. |
