Will Fenty win the DC mayoral primary against Gray?

Spin it however you like, but Fenty is leading in Ward 1:

And by September, we'll be seeing pieces like this again:

Quite cute and well done.

And then he proceeds.
I have no quarrel with what he said, but I think you overplay it. He said that he'd prefer that Congress let us decide what to do with our money, but so would every DC politician. He also explained why he signed the medical marijuana law, but that law was passed by the Council under Chair Vince Gray, who also sponsored the bill. So, I have no quarrel with Fenty here, but I'd call it at best a stand-off between him and Gray.

Yeah, but Fenty gets to look handsome and distinguished while we see nice pictures of pot Gray looks like a sex offender (and I am not the first to say so).

Because Fenty is losing now (by as much as 70-30), he's going to win in September.

WHAT?!?!?!

That's like saying, "Hey guys, we're down by 50 in the first quarter. We've got them RIGHT where we want them."

Either you're too young to be using the internet, or your memory is very short. Hillary had more than 50% early on; Obama had only 15% before the first primary. And Dukakis led Bush by over 30% before the Republicans had their convention.

The game's barely begun.
No

Not the PP you put this question to, but here are some recent examples of early leaders who were not trumped in the end:

Reagan vs. Carter
Reagan vs Mondale
Clinton vs Dole
Clinton vs Bush I
Bush II vs McCain
Williams vs Schwartz"
Fenty vs Cropp
and so on and so on
\

Interesting. Carter actually had the lead over Reagan early on:

http://www.worldmedia.fr/elections/electionva/history/1980.html

And Bush twice had a 20 point lead over Clinton:

http://books.google.com/books?id=uqqp-sDCjo4C&pg=PA124&lpg=PA124&dq=bush+early+lead+over+clinton&source=bl&ots=CPEB29dokq&sig=ToItBP77ehytj5FxnIUf7cz9C8A&hl=en&ei=U604TJmpK4L48Abx6tWmBg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CCcQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=bush%20early%20lead%20over%20clinton&f=false

I'm not trying to be snarky to PP -- I actually find this stuff very interesting, and he came up with some interesting examples (he at least did better than "Clinton v. Dole" -- duh). It's just that two of these examples are wrong.

I miss college. This is what I majored in. I'm thinking of applying to the Kennedy School. Would like to study this theme in all sorts of races and contexts.

And Kerry had a small lead over Bush until the very end. That would be most analogous to this case, in which I predict the incumbent will prevail, despite the challenger carrying a lead at the beginning and almost throughout.

He really does suck.

I'm just curious, who EXACTLY tried to spin this??? I love the tactic of imagining an opponent and than battling that opponent... when no opponent really exists. Yes, there are people here opposed to Fenty. But no one tried to spin what you just linked to, so don't act as if people did. It's disingenuous.

This is far from the most obnoxious posting I've seen here, but it may be the most vacuous. But if you are the one who made the "looks like a sex offender" comment, you may be up for the "most obnoxious" award as well.

It's apparent that you do not understand the history of this thread, nor are you familiar with its players.

The poster you refer to as the most obnoxious made it clear that s/he was not the first to notice that Gray looks like a sex offender:

The statement merely resonated with the poster. In a big way. So don't blame the messenger.

See what? A comment was made about folks trying to spin. Who tried to spin?

I've been following this thread a bit, and do think that Gray is Barry, in a "Barney Miller" suit with Foster Grants. If he is about the process, then we can look forward to more dc government workers with more bureaucracy! Process=inaction because of contracted analysis!

I would just like to share a personal encounter that almost had me fired from my job because I voiced my opinion to gray three months ago when I sent him an email. I voiced my concerns about his candidacy and his nonsupport of Rhee. No profanity or threats were used. In less than 12 hours, he tracked down my employer via email to complain my email. I did get into some hot water at work. Was that really necessary. What about my first amendment rights? He is as dirty as they comes! As Truman once said, if you can't take the heat in the kitchen, then get out of the kitchen!
