Bosco and Babs.

That ITS will never, ever clean the blackboard in the multi-purpose room because of who signed it.

Kids from this area are going to be in for a rude awakening when they step out into the world and find out nobody cares about their pronouns or "immunodeficient".

This is a tad dramatic, wouldn't you say?

Potential ITS family here. Can you give us a more honest read? We really like so much about the school but this thread is disheartening. We are really hoping our PK kid won't have to mask next year, though that wouldn't be a dealbreaker for us. However part of what is drawing us to ITS is community and it's hard to read through these complaints.

I have no clue if your kid would need to mask, it may depend on vaccination and their age. It seems like ITS goes with the majority of teachers' opinions but I don't know what that would be.

Look at the number of people looking at these threads this year vs a year or two ago. DCUM is pretty passe' for the PK3 crowd, and the older parents are over the drama and Fairfax Underground trolling:

- You have mask troll
- Anti-Charter Troll
- Ward 4, Shepherd/LAMB parent
- Ward 4, Lewis/LAMB/Whittier parent
- Anti-Pumpkin Moms
- Pro and anti Saving Shaw Middle (overlap with Pumpkin)
- Lafayette parents who don't want to cross the park
- Shining Stars haters
- Langley Boosters
- Deal sucks and it going to make my kid smoke all the pot and get jumped
- Earnest Capitol Hill parent who gets their information elsewhere
- Watkins/CH Cluster fire stoker

Who am I missing?

I miss when we debated about healthy lunches and if it was too cold to go outside.

Agree. Current ITDS parent, in our 7th year. We've been very, very happy. Glad to answer questions.

ITS parent here. If masks aren't gone after spring break they'll certainly be gone by next year. Half of parents and teachers were already comfortable axing them when the school did a survey a few weeks ago and sentiments will only get more accepting.

If you get in for pre-k you should be excited. The pre-k teachers are all wonderful. They're legitimately great people who've handled the nuttiness of pre-k in a pandemic exceptionally well.

I don't know that the community is any better or worse or more unique than any other school, but I find it to be very positive and full of totally normal people. You'll probably never meet the handful of angry folks trolling around on this thread.

Actually it was the majority of peoples "feelings" according to the email.

As a current parent of a prek3 student at ITDS, totally agree with this post. They have all been incredible and we couldn't ask for a more solid, nurturing and loving environment!!

I’m a current ITDS parent. Not a troll. I am not going to out my kids or their teachers (some of whom have been wonderful) but for all current ITDS parents who claim to “love” the school, how many times have you interacted with the administration? And, have you had an issue at the school and have you tried to raise it to the school administration? How did they handle it?

Or quite simply, have you even met the new HOS? Can you name the principal? Middle school principal is leaving and honestly I have no idea which administrator is the principal of the lower school. I raised a really serious issue to lower school last year and no one seemed to give a damn. It was so disheartening.

I am writing this bc I think all this school idolization is problematic. ITDS is fine if you have a normal kid with a good teacher, but if anything isn’t just right, you won’t get help from the admin. They just don’t care about your kid

This. It all seems good but when you dig a little deeper, it's not. Emails to leadership are ignored if they are even slightly critical. Issues are covered up.

It's not idolization to be happy with your kids school.

I have extensive experience in the DCPS/charter world (in a professional capacity) and I am very discerning about where I send my children. I don't think ITDS is perfect and sure the admin drops the ball sometime, but I still am very happy with the school overall and have no real complaints.

What grade? How long have you been there? Have you ever had any issues that you raised with the administration and how was it resolved?
