Inspired is keeping indoor masks

Anonymous
They did a staff and parent survey, and keeping indoor masks was desired by the majority of people, but it’s just frustrating- what are we waiting for? We’re listed as low by CDC, and I’m not sure when the school population will ever feel more comfortable with out masks. What is the metric for when masks will be gone? They haven’t said, and so there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. It’s a no win situation for the school, but I’m personally just getting frustrated by how much we’re going on feeling rather than relying on CDC.

did you play the lottery this year?

No, we love the school and I’m not switching up our entire lives because of a mask mandate that came out today.

It's frustrating, I know.

We're at LAMB and this year and last have taught me that it's not a school that I intend to invest in "for the long haul." It's sad.

+1000. It should not have been crowdsourced.

I am also frustrated, but hopeful that they will make the change after spring break. I've heard from multiple people at different schools that they want to stay as is until then to avoid getting sick before travel. I don't think it's a done deal that this is it for the year.

I'd be nervous about their science curriculum.

I think that's a valid concern.

Just seems silly to keep a mask mandate before spring break, especially given the number of days these schools have off a year -

Thinking that a cloth mask on a three year old for eight hours a day is an effective strategy even after the CDC has explicitly said its a face ornament, is in the same territory if climate change denialism, so yes.

Probably once vaccines are available for under-5s. I imagine once that significant chunk of the student body can be vaccinated (and I suppose if over-5 vax rates increase too), you'll see the numbers of parents and staff ready to ditch masks inside go way up.

But the 5-11 vax doesn’t work longer than a few months. All the kids who got vaccinated like mine are now unprotected again. So who cares about vaccines for this age group at this point? They aren’t going to save us because we haven’t figured them out yet.

So does Inspired 1) release their student vax rates, and 2) is it high amongst those that are already eligible?

It's really telling that these schools choose to ignore CDC guidance. Feelings should not trump science. Masks do not come w/o costs as many kids, particularly the youngest, find them uncomfortable, hard to hear/speak, and really taking a toll on forming friendships.
