Military observations on Ukraine invasion

We have more than enough conventional materiel to turn it into a crater.

It isn’t in the Russian homeland so we can escalate without tripping nuclear wire

Is it because Minsk is white?

What is with the stupid questions?

Well, aside from the moral aspect, that'd be a war crime.

This is a quote in the article from Military Times - quote is from an anon "senior Defense official":

“We’ve seen indications that at times and at certain places, the convoys may have been resisted by Ukrainian forces and I think I have to leave it at that,” the official said. “But we’ve seen indications that we are in no position to refute [Ukraine claims they have hit the convoy].”

DP.

Um - “comparatively” not a war crime. Moreover, we could just use the Russian approach to charges of war crimes:

- what crime? It didn’t happen. We know nothing. It was someone else. Try to prove it. You have nathink. You are nazi! “

That careful wording makes me wonder if the damage was inflicted by those jets that the EU was, and then wasn't, agreeing to send. My assumption was that the jets were still going in, but that the public announcement of it by EU had been a mistake. Because first we heard that the jets had been delivered to Poland and the Ukrainian pilots were already there to pick them up, followed by public statements that donor countries had changed their minds about giving the jets. Sounds like they're trying to keep up the public illusion that the EU is not sending jets due to fears it would be provocative.

No. If Ukraine breaks international law, it will only weaken the ability to prosecute Russians later. (although I'm totally sympathetic to the impulse to do so.)

But I agree: PP ‘s idea is ludicrous and won’t happen.

What should happen:

- extend all sanctions to Belarus;
- have western intelligence launch massive information campaign in Belarus to split them from Russia;
- all Belarus’ neighbors should start massive “war games” right along the border with Belarus
- take from the Chinese playbook and have “accidental” incursions into Belorussian airspace by NATO fighters; see how they react.

War crimes are only when the loser does it.

No one charged William Sherman with a war crime. He saved the union.

Russians will never be prosecuted for the same reasons that American pilots who bomb hospitals aren't. They have nuclear weapons and no country can force them to hand over suspects. Modern war crimes trials are for people from countries unable to protect their own citizens

They can't even copy American tires. Or organize basic maintenance. They can't capture shit.
