This is a quote in the article from Military Times - quote is from an anon "senior Defense official":

That careful wording makes me wonder if the damage was inflicted by those jets that the EU was, and then wasn't, agreeing to send. My assumption was that the jets were still going in, but that the public announcement of it by EU had been a mistake. Because first we heard that the jets had been delivered to Poland and the Ukrainian pilots were already there to pick them up, followed by public statements that donor countries had changed their minds about giving the jets. Sounds like they're trying to keep up the public illusion that the EU is not sending jets due to fears it would be provocative. [/quote]
