Help me understand Republican women in their 30s and 40s

It’s like they lose themselves after marriage and focus on kids and everyone’s needs but their own. Most of them were all in on abortion rights in college, but they end up caring more about other issues and ignoring THE essential issue for women. This thread is an attempt to find out why.

I think it's bizarre that you think THE essential issue for women is the ability to legally terminate a pregnancy at any time for any reason. This isn't THE issue for me. It's not even top 10.

Nope. It also protects pregnancy. Pregnancy is dangerous. If they are going to carry a pregnancy, women need to know they can have access to the best practices and not have the govt involved in their medical care with their doctors.

But ban abortions and watch women choose not to get pregnant at all if you prefer.

Abortion is about dignity for women. Yes it’s our number one issue. It’s how we did so well un the 2022 midterms and it’s why we have a chance in 2024 in spite of Biden’s low approval rating. So many voters have had abortions and we do not appreciate being judged for it.

.07% of the female US population is playing a college sport yearly. I’m not saying they don’t matter, I’m just talking figures.
.7% of the female US population is imprisoned, with women having a 1% chance of incarceration over their lifetime. That is a big increase over the last 25 years, but it’s still a very small percentage of American women.

56% of American women have a child in their lifetime. That doesn’t include women who get pregnant but don’t end up having a child for whatever reason. And pregnancy is dangerous. Pregnancy can kill you.

so ultimately Republican women are just not good a judging risk.
They’ve got their reasons, they just aren’t good ones.
And when you show them numbers it doesn’t matter.
It is what it is.

With around a million abortions a year in the U.S., there are at least 20 million women who have used abortion services. We are an army. You will not shame us, you will not break us, and you will not outvote us.

Is it that many? Maybe some are repeat customers.

In any event, most people, male or female, R or D, support access to abortion through some reasonable point in pregnancy. The devil is in the details of what point and with which exceptions. There is no way a national ban happens, and I think it's likely we get to a similar place as Roe through the legislative process eventually.

There are TONs of non-religious conservative people who this is not their main issue. They definitely don't want to ban abortion, but don't particularly care if there is a limitation at 15 weeks or so with plenty of flexibility/exceptions to terminate defective fetuses or for the health of the pregnant woman.

“They’ll surely fix it through the legislative process!”
* votes exclusively for party determined to never pass any legislation ever.

This is a private matter. I have no right to interfere with your decisions and you are most definitely not going to be involved in my private decisions.

Simple, there are still some intelligent people left, they don’t go around shouting about every progressive cause, they just quietly go about their day trying to make the world a better place.

Since you are not one of those people you won’t ever be able to understand why they exist no matter how hard people work to explain it to you.

Not sure that post is going in the made the world a better place category.

Nice try. I have yet to see much of any genuinely coherent or well reasoned explanations laid out here. It's all been reiteration of already-debunked talking points, or elevation of fringe issues and appeals to emotion, like the trans issue and others.

Along with "I'm a conservative because <insert contrived, hyperbolic 'this is what liberals believe strawman here>." If those of you making those points are sincere, you've been misled.

To be fair…maybe republican women have very valid reasons to suspect they should be sent to prison.
The numbers and risk calculus definitely shifts for them is that’s the case.

We must not be reading the same thread because I have. You simply disagree, it’s not about “well reasoned explanations.”

Christian women give birth to liberals every day.

Not the aborting kind.

You have a lot to learn about abortion. Most women that get an abortion are already mothers.

That they have fewer kids is good for the future of the world.

All western cultures are having fewer kids.
Which I agree is good for the future of the planet.

Why would you want the majority of kids born in cultures that don’t care about global warming or environmental health? How is that going to help?

Help has nothing to do with it anymore. The global warming ship has sailed. Human populations in the earth are now just going to adjust to the new climate. It will be ugly.

And we’ve circled back around to Republican women are just dumb.
