Would you have called for the superintendent of the Newtown school district to resign? No, because that was considered an isolated tragedy no one could predict. If you think YOU could have predicted this because undocumented students are so obviously all criminals to you, al I can say is that your prejudices are not supported by facts.

The Superintendant has made it clear that he does not thing this is a big deal. It took days for him to even acknowledge the event and then at the meeting, he refers to it as an 'event'.

He is the one who is not even making an effort to address policy issues. Seems to want the whole 'event' to just go away without making any meaningful change. That is why there are calls for him to resign. He has failed our students repeatedly. And is not even willing to own up to that.

Do you feel that Jack Smith's response has been appropriate?
He doesn't want to take responsibility. He tried to cover this up. He's callous and uncaring. He's not serious about making changes to prevent this from happening again. To him it's one single "event".He's a joke. We need someone who's up for the task of running a school system. This is a tough job and he's proven he can't handle it. Yes, he needs to step down. Mcps will do something about him once they are sued senseless if not before. Our kids deserve better.

To me, it's his response that's the issue. I don't care about immigration status -- I know Federal law prohibits schools from checking that.

If I was Smith, here's what I would have done:

- Reported this to the public on Thursday afternoon (the day the incident occurred.. suspects were in custody by 1pm), and that the bathroom where this took place has been closed until further notice (it was in a secluded part of the school, and had doors.. the others don't).
- On Friday, issue a statement that he's ordered a top-to-bottom review of security at ALL MCPS schools, and he's convening an independent review or brining in outside consulants on this too.
- Meet with Rockville HS parents on Monday, and stay to answer all theri questions (he left after 15 minutes)
- Show sympathy for the victim

Instead what do we get?
- Rushed out statement on Sunday night after story hits national news
- Press conference on Tuesday
- No meeting with parents until Tuesday

Total utter mismanagement. How do we get him ousted? I know he's not elected, so do we go to the Board of Ed or our Council?

This is exactly how I feel. He has not made enough effort to actually reach out to parents.

And I feel very strongly that if this did not get picked up by more news channels, this would have very quickly been glossed over as an 'unfortunate event'. Versus in reality it is a pretty big deal with many complicated issues to address.

It is all over Conservative media. Rush was just discussing it on-air with Pemce

It was on cnn too.

Finally, CNN!!!

ROCKVILLE, MD (WJLA/CNN) - Police in Montgomery County, MD, arrested two high school students accused of raping a 14-year-old girl at school.

But prosecutors say immigration enforcement could play a big part in the case.

"These are very serious allegations, carrying a life sentence," said Ramon Korionoff of the Montgomery County state's attorney's office.

Prosecutors assert 18-year-old Henry Sanchez and 17-year-old Jose Montano raped a 14-year-old girl inside Rockville High School. Charging documents stating both teens "pulled" and "pushed" the victim into a boy's bathroom stall, and then sexually assaulted her right beside a toilet.

After the attack, police say Sanchez placed his coat over the girl's head while walking her out of the bathroom as Montano told her to be quiet. "Today they were held without bond," Korionoff said.

In court on Friday, it was learned that ICE was already working to deport Sanchez back to his native Guatemala. He entered the U.S. seven months ago and was living in an Aspen Hill apartment with his father.

Montano, a minor whose mugshot police are not releasing, entered the U.S. from El Salvador last school year. He had been staying along Lincoln Street in Rockville with his uncle.

"The immigration ramifications are determined at a later point by the proper authorities. We just are working very closely with our police and school security partners to ensure this case goes forward in a timely and executed manner,” Korionoff said.

Police say both Montano and Sanchez will be tried as adults.

The details of this brutal crime make me wonder why certain people want these foreign criminals to be placed in daytime classes with regular school children. They need to be placed in evening classes. Duh.

Because people are not asking for brutal criminals to be kept out of the classroom.

If we kept all brutal criminals out of the classroom we would have to include white kids that have been arrested and people don't want to include white kids in the equation.

You can keep criminals out of the classroom, but you can say.. .I want criminals that are Hispanic kept out of the classroom.

Are you prepared to say... I want all criminals to be kept out of the classroom?

Criminals have to be known to have committed a crime. MCPS can't even know someone is illegal.

Isn't a bit rich that lefty wackjobs like our superintendent cite federal law requires them to give kids an opportunity to learn...

...in sanctuary schools-cities-counties that are actively skirting federal laws?!?!

If a kid shows up with papers called ICE. They don't call ICE because they want the $$$$ and they're following their demented lefty marching orders.

There are plenty of 17 year olds in high schools and there's nothing inherently different about them being potential rapists vs 18 or 19 year olds. Technically students of any age in a high school could be potential rapists. Nothing magical happens when someone turns 18/19/20 that makes them more likely to rape than a 17 year old. My son will be almost 19 when he graduates because his birthday is at the beginning of September. Would you consider him to be someone who should not be allowed to attend school with 14 or 15 year olds?

Was this situation a terrible one? Of course. But let's focus on the issues that matter--such as security in schools vs. focusing on that there are some male students over the age of 18 in high schools. Because what you're really saying is that immigrants from Central America who are currently in US high schools are all potential rapists just waiting to pounce on your child.

1) Your son is about to graduate, not just getting started.

2) If age has nothing to do with it, then why to we bother to have statutory rape laws? I guess anyone who's comfortable with their HS daughter dating should be fine with them dating a man of any age? No? Then this is why. This is not just about fear of more rape. There is a big difference (or should be) in the maturity level of a 14 year old and a 21 year old, and there is a lot that goes along with that.

My son is currently in elementary school.

I guess you are against letting your teenage daughter go to the mall? The movies? The grocery store? There are men over the age of 18 in those places with areas for a rape to potentially take place. Clearly dating wasn't part of the equation in this incident, although the investigation has yet to be finalized so who knows, but that's an apples to oranges comparison in any event.

You want MoCo to call ICE every time a homeless child registers for school?

No. My 14 year old daughter has been instructed ad nauseum by me to not mingle with 18-22 yo men at the mall or movies. I'm in FFX County and our schools put out a video series helping kids identify sex trafficking in our schools and community. She has no business talking/socializing with older men. I do not want her in class socializing with 18-22 year old men either. If you do not understand this then I cannot help you.

OMG. Not the PP, but how is it that you don't get the difference. There is a difference between a crime and a rape AT school during school hours. Parents have a reasonable expectation that their kids are safe at school. It is reasonable to assume that your 14 year old daughter will not be dragged into the bathroom at school and brutally raped by fellow students.

Don't you see that as a problem?
