The shooter caused SWAT who caused trauma. The kids were not afraid if the kid, they didn’t even know he had a gun. Yes SWAT has to do things this way to be safe and it’s not pretty. |
Wow. Just wow. I haven’t read this who thread from top to bottom but the girl’s description sounds terrifying. I am not a police officer but did the arrest have to down that way and every child in the room treated like suspects with loaded guns pointed at them? I guess if you are too soft they ran the risk of the shooter taking hostages or shooting at them. They arrested the shooter without killing him or other students being caught in the crossfire. I don’t know tough call. I hope MCPS and county agencies are providing mental health support for all the students and the teacher in that classroom. PTSD is no joke for something like that. Same for the officers who were doing a job that they were trained for. It’s one thing to have an armed situation with an adult but this was a classroom of children. It’s easy to second guess and what if but they achieved the mission that everyone lived to see another day. |
You speak truth. |
We are going private. We applied for 9th grade not sure whether we would enroll if accepted. Now we are 100% sure and will leave MCPS for good. |
+1 Sure, they could have done it a different way. Shooter might have still had the gun intact and there could have been lots more shot. But, you can complain about the SWAT all you want. The kids got out alive. Would you have risked your kid rather than have them scared by SWAT? Your choice. |
My kids went to private and we had a gun incident. (Nobody was shot) cops were at our school for weeks the kid was expelled. You can run but you can’t hide. |
No, the ^^PP wanted SWAT to knock on the door and nicely ask the shooter to come out with their hands up without hurting anyone else, and tell the truth that he was the only shooter and they don't have to worry about another shooter. Gosh, if only the shooter was honest and caring about the kids in the classroom. /s |
Well then, that is the key...see bolded. Won't happen in MCPS. |
Yes, police work can look ugly and scary, and it can look like it's a much larger response than necessary. And that sucks, it does. But it's the best way to keep everyone else safe. Imagine if the shooter had grabbed another student as a shield, or pointed the gun at the teacher, or at the police themselves. Imagine that scene. The SWAT team minimized the risk of that happening. |

Yep they lost my kid one day too. They took no responsibility. In fact they basically blamed my kindergartener for getting on the wrong bus..... |
Mom of Magruder victim is interviewed. Supports SROs in schoools. |
| Beautiful child… and parents.. will pray for his recovery. Parents look so young…they are so calm too.. God Bless this family! Let’s hope the investigation is done right- arrest the friend; the witnesses; get to the bottom of this asap. |
| Are ghost guns plastic? I feel like they’re made from 3D printers correct? If that’s the case metal detectors wouldn’t have helped. |
