Right now I'd vote for anyone other than Tholen but it's always possible the Republicans could find someone worse to endorse.

A lot of my Republican friends thought along these lines and voted for Youngkin. Most are crying now (at least publicly). I suspect any Republican elected will end up "toeing the Trump line". Unfortunate, but true. Youngkin had the opportunity to prove he is "not one of them" but it's pretty clear that he is.

I'm beyond tired of Democrats looking to deflect from the incredibly poor performance of local Democratic officials in Fairfax by bringing up Trump. It didn't work for McAuliffe and it won't work for Bryan Graham and the FCDC in 2023. At a minimum you should be looking for a graceful exit for the majority of the current members, including but not limited to Omeish, Tholen and Frisch, and looking for a new slate.

Well said.

If Trump is an influence, or someone is following his platform, Trump is relevant. Period.

I look forward to FCDC-endorsed School Board candidates in 2023 running away from their records and trying to make the election all about Trump. I'm sure it will work out well for them.

Everyone knows that republicans are racist and democrats don’t have racist friends, right?

Democrats only hate asians, like Omeish

Omeish doesn’t like white westerners either.

Obviously.

Well Omeish is a democrat and racist so that may be the exception that proves the rule?

If my kids were young (elementary age) and 'influence-able' i would pull them from FCPS if at all possible. I cant believe the what Im seeing my older kids (non-elementary) bringing home and telling me about. The books are all revisionist history and some of the comments made by teachers are unforgivable. In a very short time, we've seen the SB and Superintendent take FCPS from a reputable system to a total joke....a joke that is not at all funny.

I believe the word you want is "impressionable" (when you say "influence-able").

But, yes, FCPS has lost the plot when it comes to fulfilling its basic obligations effectively and efficiently. Our pyramid has taken a huge blow, and it seems like every new family moving into the neighborhood who can afford it sends their kids to privates instead.

This is the work of the Democrats in charge of the School Board who've prioritize virtue signaling over effective oversight. Things were heading in that direction with the 2011-15 and 2015-19 boards, but the group elected in the fall of 2019 has by far been the most disastrous. There has to be a better process to find people for that body than effectively turning it over to the far-left activists in the FCDC for voters faced with limited alternatives to then ratify.

Totally agree with the above. Very relieved that my youngest is a senior this year and in a few short months, we will never have to deal with FCPS again. I will, however, still be voting and I look forward to ousting these clowns next year.

Not sure Democrats need to bring up Trump. They can talk about book burnings and other crazy stuff from the other side. I’m not happy with status quo but I’ll be damned if I think conservatives are the solution.

I’d like to know what Republicans in Virginia have actually advocated for book burnings, as opposed to the removal of certain explicit books from public school libraries where they might be available to 12-year-olds.

I will not vote for book burners, but it’s ironic that Democrats would try to exaggerate censorship by Republicans when the far left has been doing much more to promote cancel culture and suppress free speech, with 62% of Americans now reporting they are reluctant to express their views publicly for fear of retribution.

Literally 30 seconds of googling to find your answer: https://www.businessinsider.com/virginia-school-board-members-call-for-books-to-be-burned-2021-11

"Courtland representative Rabih Abuismail and Livingston representative Kirk Twigg both championed burning the books that have been removed.

"I think we should throw those books in a fire," Abuismail said. Meanwhile, Twigg said he wanted to "see the books before we burn them so we can identify within our community that we are eradicating this bad stuff."

Um, Spotsylvania? OK. Don't live there and not relevant to the lame performance of Democrats on the FCPS School Board. But thanks for playing.

You don’t call setting up a tip line/email to report teachers suppression of free speech?

Youngkin comes from the corporate world, where every big organization and public company is either required by law to or voluntarily sets up whistleblower "hotlines" to report potential misconduct by anyone within those organizations or companies. Big government agencies have them as well. Democrats have supported those programs and, in some cases, been involved with strengthening the rewards that whistleblowers can receive. In addition, the local Democrats supported the idea of an "equity ambassadors" program at FCPS where certain students are tapped to solicit and then report complaints about administrators, teachers, and fellow students allegedly engaging in discriminatory conduct (through the guise of "amplifying" the voices of "marginalized students").

Yet somehow it's only Orwellian to set up a tip line if it's a Republican governor approving one for people to share concerns about what they or their kids are being told or taught in school.

So, no, I don't think this is "suppression of free speech." Public educators work within large organizations, just like other employees, and they need to come to terms with the fact that many parents now feel "marginalized" within their own communities when it comes to their children's education. Most of the "tips" will warrant little attention, and go nowhere, but if there are teachers with a demonstrable pattern of using their classrooms as platforms to proselytize and recruit students, rather than teach them, they deserve scrutiny.

You didn’t ask about Fairfax, you asked about Virginia. Spotsylvania is in Virginia.

She’s got you there pp.

Just like liberals/dems like to pretend none of them cheered on rioters or that dems messaged, while Trump was still in office, how great vaccines would be when it’s easily proven wrong, you are just going to have to hold that L.
