Not sure Democrats need to bring up Trump. They can talk about book burnings and other crazy stuff from the other side. I’m not happy with status quo but I’ll be damned if I think conservatives are the solution.
I’d like to know what Republicans in Virginia have actually advocated for book burnings, as opposed to the removal of certain explicit books from public school libraries where they might be available to 12-year-olds. I will not vote for book burners, but it’s ironic that Democrats would try to exaggerate censorship by Republicans when the far left has been doing much more to promote cancel culture and suppress free speech, with 62% of Americans now reporting they are reluctant to express their views publicly for fear of retribution.
You don’t call setting up a tip line/email to report teachers suppression of free speech?
Youngkin comes from the corporate world, where every big organization and public company is either required by law to or voluntarily sets up whistleblower "hotlines" to report potential misconduct by anyone within those organizations or companies. Big government agencies have them as well. Democrats have supported those programs and, in some cases, been involved with strengthening the rewards that whistleblowers can receive. In addition, the local Democrats supported the idea of an "equity ambassadors" program at FCPS where certain students are tapped to solicit and then report complaints about administrators, teachers, and fellow students allegedly engaging in discriminatory conduct (through the guise of "amplifying" the voices of "marginalized students"). Yet somehow it's only Orwellian to set up a tip line if it's a Republican governor approving one for people to share concerns about what they or their kids are being told or taught in school. So, no, I don't think this is "suppression of free speech." Public educators work within large organizations, just like other employees, and they need to come to terms with the fact that many parents now feel "marginalized" within their own communities when it comes to their children's education. Most of the "tips" will warrant little attention, and go nowhere, but if there are teachers with a demonstrable pattern of using their classrooms as platforms to proselytize and recruit students, rather than teach them, they deserve scrutiny.
