I HATE SUMMER. I always have. I truly do not understand the appeal, and as an adult with kids, I hate it even more.
It's hot. Like, in the winter, you can put ON a jacket. And it really doesn't get that cold here. But in summer? There is no relief. You need sunscreen, bug spray, and hats, plus water EVERY time you leave. Winter...? Just leave the house. THE BUGS If you have kids who overheat...? Forget it. You're stuck inside. Anyone else HATE summer? Don't try to change my mind. |
| Nah I love it. Can finally do what you want and not be cooped up in the house. Going for nature hikes, theme parks, carnivals, Ice cream on a warm dusk afternoon. Love it |

YES. I am with you 100%.
I loved living in Central Europe where a beastly hot day was 85 degrees. |
| Are you the same poster who starts a thread about hating winter? |
| I used to hate it. It still doesn’t bring me joy BUT we joined a pool last summer and it was life changing. So much happier now we have a place to go where we can Cool down and my kid gets exercise and socializes. |
| I love summer produce. But I do not love summer in the Mid-Atlantic region (or the south). Except for the long evenings, when you can sit outside in a screened porch to avoid the bugs. |
| if you search the forum you will see you are not alone, it is an annual exercise to vent about the dc summer |
Same! Drives me nuts that people complain about summer |
| I hate heat and humidity. When it's 90+ degrees I'm cooped up inside just like the winter because it's too gross to be outside. |
No I love winter!!! |
OP here. Minus the ice cream, we do all of this year round. We actually stop going on nature hikes in the summer because it’s so hot and there are so many bugs. And Busch Gardens is so much better when it’s cooler out. |
| Move north. I will never understand the hate when you can easily move to a better climate. Life's too short to be miserable for months on end. |
I’m from PA and despite my hatred of summer it’s worth it to live here for the year round sunshine. I can accept 3 months of intense heat in exchange for 300+ days of sunshine and mild winters. |
| I love summer. I feel chilled all of winter. I can never get relief from the cold. In the summer you can be hot, but you can jump in a pool or go into the AC to cool down. There's also something about the rhythm of summer. People tend to slow down and take a break. |

Perfectly timed, as today is officially “oh it’s gross” weather in DC.
My body was not designed for it. I should live in Northern Europe or at least, like, Maine or Canada. I overhear easily no matter how hydrated I am. My skin burns instantly unless I wear SPF 50 and reapply regularly. Mosquitos love me. I get heat rashes even from the breathable, weather appropriate clothes I wear. By July my skin just kind of prickles all the time, from the heat and humidity. I was simply not meant for this weather. How I wound up in DC, in a job that is tied to the city, married to a man with similar, is comical (to others, not to me, I’m too uncomfortable to laugh). And the worst part is that it will only get worse, every year. And my kid is just like me. I have to budget time every morning for sunscreen/bug spray application and buy UPF hats and clothing in triplicate and still, still she will wind up with pink skin and a million mosquito bites. Sigh. |
