| 13% of guns commit 50% of murders. |
HOW ARE YOU GOING TO FIND THE ILLEGAL GUNS? If cops start searching for those guns - you and the NRA and going to scream until your teeth fall out. The best way to handle this is put reasonable gun controls in place. Right now, gun laws in the U.S. are absurd and the result is 40k lives a year. |
The way to FIND THE ILLEGAL GUNS is the same way they’re found now — incident to arrest, incident to a lawful stop, when warrants are executed, and so forth. The difference is that if criminals go to prison instead of getting endless chances at recidivism without consequence, both the suppliers and the users of unlawful firearms will be out of the marketplace. It doesn’t take cordon and search operations. And the people who decry proven effective “broken windows policing” and targeted stop and frisk efforts are hardly Second Amendment supporters. We probably agree (albeit for widely divergent reasons) that the current firearm laws are absurd. What is even more absurd, however, is the childlike belief that more laws will do anything if the existing laws are not enforced. |
| It’s too late if there has already been “an incident.” Wake up. |
No gun is illegal. Lowers are lowers. |
Sorry. You’re the one dreaming. |
Huh? |
| The “gun is a symbol of American freedom” crowd has become so unable to compromise and unreasonable that they have lost all credibility. Again, I say that as a gun owner in DC. |
Are you talking about when they made George W. Bush president? That’s a pretty traumatic memory let’s not get into it. |
Right. Because the people shooting innocent children in DC pay taxes and purchase guns legally. |
I think you know precisely what I’m talking about and it ain’t “W.” |
Actually… I don’t. What on Earth are you talking about? |
You do realize that this is ridiculous right? Read the DC Crime blotter. Look how many arrests are made for unregistered / unlicensed guns. Do you think any of these gang members and criminals shooting into houses have registered guns they pay taxes on? |
You both seem to naively think that people go about getting guns and ammo in LEGAL ways. All kinds of nope on this. Open your eyes. |
|
What exactly is the objective of a tax on ammunition?
All it would do is reduce the number of law abiding people going to the range to practice shooting or sportsman clearing nuisance deer. Mass shooters and gang bangers don't care one bit. Ammunition is key to their thing. All you do is hurt the law abiding marginal buyers. That all said, a punitive tax on ammunition would be rightly deemed unconstitutional. |
