They are trying to track down the rest. IN THE MEANTIME DO YOU THINK THEY MIGHT GO TO THE NEXT GROUP??? The missing 7,000 could jump right back in when they are located. THIS is why we can't be a state. They had all fall to prepare.

Maryland is a state and not doing better.

West Virginia is doing great.

Please note: Wards 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8 are receiving this new batch of vaccines because residents of those Wards have seen disproportionately high COVID deaths & disproportionately low vaccination rates https://t.co/VjFCHF5vsb

Ha ha... The 'woke' tax.

I mean... The irony is so rich. All the nimbys who refused to acknowledge that they profited off of others misfortune. Living in their single family mcmansions in CP are now f'ed by the very system they installed.

They cheated the registration with their reliable and high speed internet, their better cell phones and now they have to get at the end of the line.

Justice!

No one cheated I am pretty sure they have the same cell phones-but that's OK but they deserve it-this is how republican are created. So the residents of these wards are less worthy. You want their $ to support all the ervvices but not to be treated equally, Anytime you treat any one unequal problems are created. This does not bring people together.

So is DC using all the available vaccine or not? If it is, then I am all for giving the next batch to ward 1, 4, 5, 7, 8. I can imagine the seniors (or their family) in Ward 3 are much quicker snatching up the appointments, and driving to ward 8 to get vaccinated (what a funny sight considering many probably never set foot in that part of the city before).

That said, the system is a cluster f---. I tried to get an appointment for my mother and failed. Why can't we do it like Fairfax, letting people make appointment months ahead instead of this week only. Having to try again every week on a dysfunctional website sucks.

We will all get vaccinated sooner or later. No need to fight to the death to get it two weeks sooner.

I mean the current system is making it into a hunger game situation, which we don't need after all the shit we experienced since last March.

Here is a little secret for Dr Nesbitt and the woke city council. Black people don't trust or want your shot. Nothing prevented us from registering on Monday, computers work EOTR. Phones work as well. We know how to use phones and dial numbers. We chose not to because we don't trust your shot. Where has the campaign be to spread information about the vaccine? DCHealth just rolls out a terrible website and says have at it. No thank you is what most of my neighbors are saying. We'll wait this out.

From Mary Cheh:

Dear Neighbors,

Many residents have written to me about an "alert" they received from the Department of Health that, on Saturday, a new vaccine registration opportunity would become available exclusively to those residents living within Wards 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8. No prior notice was provided to residents or to me. The alert inadequately explained the rationale for this decision. In fact, the alert made it appear that the reason was simply due to the number of appointments secured by these Wards as compared to those secured by Wards 2, 3, and 6. But there is a deeper, more important justification that makes the decision much more understandable (or even reasonable).

To date, Ward 3 has experienced 1,796 positive coronavirus cases and lost 42 of our neighbors to this virus. Contrast that to our neighbors in Wards 4 and 5 who have experienced 5,477 and 5,046 cases, respectively. Or Ward 8, who has experienced 4,629 cases and lost 162 residents during the pandemic, yet secured only 94 vaccination appointments. When looking at the data and the population differences in terms of incidence and death rates, co-morbidity, and access to healthcare, the disparate health effects of the pandemic become starkly clear. Of the 6,756 vaccination appointments made available to senior residents this past Monday, Ward 3 residents were able to secure 2,465 of them, or about 40%.

Here is what I would like residents to consider:

Exposure threat, high risk factors, and equity should be taken into account in our vaccine distribution plan. And, because the news released today was not carefully explained or contextualized, it has angered and alarmed many people. It is deeply frustrating that the Council was not briefed on this decision before the alert, and many vulnerable seniors and those with co-morbidities are afraid that their zip code will dictate whether they are able to receive a vaccine or not. To this point, it is unacceptable that the alert omitted the caveat that 1,400 additional appointments will be released on Monday to ALL senior residents.

What should be emphasized right now is the fact that the District receives new vaccine shipments every week. And as we receive new vaccines, so too will more appointments become available. Rightly placed fear and the extreme disruption of coronavirus has lead many to feel that they will only have a few select opportunities to receive a vaccine, but that is actually not the case. Eventually, everyone for whom it is medically safe to receive a vaccine, will get one. And our anxiety to get one right away should not cloud the pursuit of equitable vaccine distribution. On Saturday, residents in five wards will have exclusive access to vaccination appointments. But just two days later, all District residents will have access to additional appointments. And the week after that, even more appointments and vaccines will become available (and so on).

I wish the news in tonight's announcement was fully conveyed, and it has been deeply disappointing that DC Health gave no advance notice to me or to you. This was very poorly presented and the notification to residents was unnecessarily confusing. But now, knowing the situation, I believe that our residents will appreciate the reasoning for this one time opportunity for more vulnerable residents to have access to the vaccine. And on Monday, again, ALL senior residents will be eligible to register for an appointment.

Regards,

Mary

Also, this:

Where in D.C. people are properly wearing masks:

Ward 1: 80%
Ward 2: 84%
Ward 3: 80%
Ward 4: 68%
Ward 5: 70%
Ward 6: 69%
Ward 7: 55%
Ward 8: 58%

Seems like personal responsibility is playing a large roll here too. It’s not always equity.

This is the question. Why are people in those wards EOTR not signing up? Address that - rather than acting punitively to limit spots for others, which is not a solution, just woke optics that undermine trust in the system. Find out why the discrepancy is there and address it. Send mobile units to those wards where residents can ask questions about vaccine safety and get help registering for appointments if they need it.

People EOTR are not registering for the vaccines because they don't trust it because they have not been told anything about it.

Where has the vaccine campaign been spotted since May? I have not seen a single buss sign or billboard or radio advertisement. Just some crazy PG county health official talking about COVID fatigue.

WaPo has an article about this this morning. We need to reach out to hesitant vaccine populations now and start bringing them aboard.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/01/16/vaccine-resistance-skepticism-consumer-thinking/

It is tempting to blame conspiracy theories for a growing distrust of vaccines, because refusing a lifesaving technology, particularly during a pandemic that is poised to kill over 400,000 Americans within a year, seems irrational. Yet dismissing those who are hesitant as ignorant or anti-science ignores the complex ways in which individuals and families are weighing information and trying to make decisions that feel safe and relevant to them.

DC has had 68,325 doses distributed to it through the Federal vaccine distribution program. Those are doses that DC is already accountable for.

Why has DC only vaccinated 39,934 of its population? Why are there not at least appointments available for the remaining 29,000 doses?

What exactly is DCHealth doing. Remember, they have been working on this rollout since May according to their website.

Our city is tops 750K. We should be a model of efficiency.

exactly. it’s a funny trick to make zero effort to actually get the vaccine out in Ward 8, and then blame “whypipo” in Ward 3 for your failure.

ok well then, don’t complain about the health disparities in Ward 8. It boggles the mind that you can be equipped and motivated to engage in this argument online and form relatively complex opinions, and yet you don’t have the ability to understand the science behind this amazingly effective vaccine? gtfo.
