Metropolitan DC Local Politics
| It would be more reasonable if the plan were based on sc8ence behind the data- for example if the plan were to give extra sign ups to all 65+ in any ward in "multi generation" households. Basing it on zip code is bad policy. There are 2x as many elderly in Ward 3 as any other ward, and no vax points. Now this smoke and mirrors. If ANY Vaccination gets tossed this weekend due to the distribution "equity plan" there MUST BE an investigation and criminal charges against those who spearheaded and authorized it. The highly contagious covid strain is supposed to be endemic in America in March. We do not have time to play reindeer games. |

At the end of the day, what people are overlooking is the fact that the city deliberately placed the majority of inoculation sites in Wards 5, 7 and 8 in order to be able to satisfy a large volume of residents in geographic locations that were hit hard by the CORONA virus. Those sites had the largest capacity and the most appointments available for registration.
Therefore, when residents from areas that did not have vaccination points in their Wards attempted to make vaccination reservations, they were offered appointments at the sites that had the largest capacities. In this case across town in the designed vaccination points in Wards 5, 7 and 8. They system functioned as designed. What it did not account for was residents in the Wards 5, 7 and 9 not wanting to sign up for the vaccine. |

Lots of Northern Virginia residents getting shots in DC as well because of DC's not ID policy.
Accounting for residency could complicate the District’s current approach to distribute doses. DC Health has a no wastage policy, advising providers to give a shot to anyone willing and able should they run up against a vial’s expiration date. Residents also do not need to show a D.C.-issued driver’s license or identification card to get vaccinated. This policy accounts for residents, namely the undocumented, who do not have this form of ID. |
Have they worked out teciprocity with VA so we can show up there? |

https://washingtoncitypaper.com/article/505858/councilmembers-butt-heads-with-dc-health-director-over-racial-equity-in-vaccine-distribution/ "The frustrations bled into a conference call Wednesday afternoon, on which D.C. councilmembers clashed with DC Health Director Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt over who should get priority for vaccinations. Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie demanded that Black residents, who have been infected with and died from complications related to COVID-19 at a higher rate than other racial and ethnic groups, be prioritized. “If you cannot legally prioritize based on race, can you prioritize based on geography to ensure people who need this the most are the people who are going to get it?” McDuffie asked. That policy, Nesbitt said, is impractical. “It is not a policy we can have to suggest to someone who is demanding the vaccine that ‘you cannot go into another neighborhood and access it when it is available,’” Nesbitt said." ... For Nesbitt, the answer was obvious. DC Health set up vaccination sites that can process more people on a daily basis in Wards 5, 7, and 8, where high populations of Black residents live. By that logic, it makes sense that Ward 3 residents are getting vaccinated in Ward 5. She also noted that people of color are generally more hesitant to accept vaccines, according to her department’s own survey data, and she can’t force people to get vaccinated." |
| Wards 7 and 8 are hesitant to take the vaccine. They have low mask wearing compliance. And in survey after survey they want the schools to remain closed. These positions are untenable and directly at odds with the western portions of the city who will move on without them. This will become a polity crisis. It’s sad, but true. |
Agreed, and I expect that many people hesitant to take the vaccine are taking a "You first" approach. I certainly have listened with interest as those I know have been vaccinated - and when they have a good experience it is reassuring. I assume that over time this group will become more receptive. Outreach can accelerate this. Has CouncilMember McDuffie made a concerted effort in his Ward to promote the vaccine through any means besides limiting residents of other zip codes? CDC is overseeing vaccine distribution nationally and has this statement on their website: CDC Nondiscrimination Notice The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex. I am going to lock this thread because it looks like many of the posts, including most of the recent ones, are from a single poster who is sock puppeting.
