How to relate to SIL who shows no unhappy emotions ever?

Omg “tragedy vulture” YES. A perfect description of a certain type of person who seem relish in others’ tragedies. And in that moment of weakness they will swoop down and feast on you while you are defenseless and unprepared. They also seem to get weirdly excited about others tragedies. They are the life of the party and social butterflies at funerals.

Honestly, it could just be that she doesn’t want a relationship with you beyond the superficial. Although the inspirational quotes have me second guessing that and thinking maybe she is just a surface level person. I cannot personally relate as I veer towards catastrophizing .

Tragedy vulture is a great term, but I don't think that's what is happening here. IF anything, its schadenfraude. TAking pleasure in the misfortune of others is only pleasurable if they make it seem like they deserve it, SIL who is always perfect and amazing, yeah, it would be nice to see some human flaws in that construction.

The SIL is surface and fake. Bad things don't happen to people liker her because when and if they do, it gets swept under the rug or glossed over. Pandemic = opportunity for family time. Job loss= more time for self discovery and exploration. so broke you move back in with your parents at 35? = a chance for the grandparents to hang with the grandkids. an incredibly demanding SN kid = Twice Exceptional!
You get the gist.

My SIL is exactly like this and her optimism and positivism borders on delusional.
