Just watched it. I noticed that Rebecca and Miguel were not at the birthday party dinner. Isn't this weird considering they are always present at the family events? |
Anyone else not a Dasia fan? Nothing to do with the quality of her acting or how powerful her scenes can be, but Rebecca and Randall's girls are adorable, but they have been a bit displaced by Dasia. Also, I really miss William! Gone too soon. |
+1 |
I also just watched it.
1) Carnival - ok, after reading all the comments on here about the carnival, I have to say that DC has a carnival in the winter -- at the Cub Rub drive-through Christmas light show. So, maybe a bit unrealistic, but not impossible for Pittsburgh to have some kind of carnival event in December. 2) Yes it is odd that Rebecca and Miguel weren't at the birthday dinner. 3) I think Jack is or feels responsible for his brother's death in Vietnam. 4) The mysterious "her"....I think it's actually pretty straightforward but what's not straightforward is the circumstances that got everyone there. Theory One: I think it's Rebecca, and she's dying, and that is where the story will eventually end. (Sterling K. Brown said so in an interview, that this timeline is the "end" of the story; he also said the mysterious "her" is a character already in the show). I think Kate has already died, and that is why Toby says she won't want to see me - maybe Kate died due to a pregnancy, or spiraled after Toby went into depression and killed herself or ate herself into an early grave, and Rebecca holds Toby responsible. I think Tess and Randall are dreading the visit because they're going to pull life support from Rebecca, or maybe she just had a massive heart attack or stroke, and that's why they say "I'm not ready." Theory Two is darker -- it's Annie, and she's gotten into trouble with the law or had an overdose or something like that. That explains why Randall and Tess aren't ready to see her, and maybe the Toby comment is simply that the entire family is gathering and when he says "she doesn't want to see me" he means Kate as they're now estranged (but doesn't quite make sense why he would be part of some kind of family gathering). |
+ 11. PP articulated that parallel beautifully. It was an amazing fumble recovery in both the dating and football game. Of course, I’d uou don’t understand or watch football, there is a bit lost in the context here. I’m loving this show more and more. |
The writers behind this show are brilliant. Tell the beginning, tell the end, then sit back and never tire of theories to implement for whatever parts of history they can make revolve for as many seasons as people will crave the characters.
Brilliant. |
From my inner city upbringing and my teaching, I have gotten to know a lot of “Dasias.” Their ability to survive unthinkable losses and stressors blows me away. I think TIU is doing a great job of portraying the depth and complexity of Dasia’s story. I was delighted when she returned and will keep cheering for a healthy outcome to her arc. |
All this time I thought her name was Asia. I like the story, but I do feel like Randall is really ignoring his daughters to focus on her. Have to wonder if that's going to boomerang back on him. |
It’s Deja, people! |
Agree with all this, although I do like the scenes that show a relationship developing between Deja and the daughters. I could get very invested in that. Deja’s character is (understandably) emotionally cautious, so it’s hard to root for her except in an intellectual way. I don’t FEEL anything for her yet. I’m really bummed they killed William off in the first season. It was too soon! He was by far my favorite character. |
William will be back this season in flashbacks. |
Theory one makes a lot of sense. I hope this doesn't get dragged out like Jack's cause of death did. |
I'm definitely not a Dasia fan. I'm so over her ungrateful and bitter attitude. I think Randall is pacifying her and making excuses for her behavior. There is no way that I would sacrifice my own girls by allowing the toxicity of Dasia in their life. At first I was rooting for Dasia, but now I despise her. She is not a likable character at all. I wish they would have kept William alive and sent Dasia's inconsiderate behind back to the foster home. Dasia is going to create strain on that family. |
Thank you! They even showed why she was named for the idea of “Deja vu.” (Pam Grier!) |
Same here! Is the actor on another show? One of my favorite scenes from season 1 is when William, Kevin, Annie and Tess are sitting around the table helping Kevin with his lines. Annie is adorable! I hope something bad/sad that happened to her is not reason for the visit in the flash forward. |
