This Is Us. Season 3

I don't think Franco is going to be Zoe's dad or anything of that sort but there is going to be some other connection with him in later episodes.

Why would they mess up some details (date of the game/carnival did not happen in December) but get the fact that his mother is Italian and his Italian heritage correct? I feel like there is something there with that one.

And for those who don't know what I'm talking about - another football lesson for you. Poster from Pittsburgh who didn't know who Franco Harris was - read and educate yourself! http://www.post-gazette.com/life/lifestyle/2012/12/20/Let-s-Learn-From-the-Past-Franco-s-Italian-Army/stories/201212200300

The date of the game was right - December 23, 1972. Now, a carnival in December is unlikely. But if there was one on that date, you can be sure it rained in Pittsburgh. It always rains in Pittsburgh in December - snow storms don't usually roll around until January/February.

I think the "her" is going to be Rebecca and perhaps she has alzheimers or dementia. TIU likes to roll in lots of current day issues like the opioid addiction and infertility. Lots of seniors are dealing with dementia and a story line like that would allow the producers to have Rebecca cycling in and out of memories with Jack and different parts of her life.

I do think that Madison might be a surrogate for Kate and Toby -- which would be the ultimate irony b/c Madison thinks she's fat -- and if she gets pregnant for them, she will actually, factually, be "fat" (in the sense of pregnant-big).

The game day weather during the immaculate reception was 42 degrees. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaculate_Reception

The actress who plays Madison is married the This Is Us creator, Dan Fogelman. That might be a reason to move her up from a bit part.

And also the reason she never hooks up with Justin Hartley.

The “football player?” Show some respect - it was the great Franco Harris. I do wonder if his backstory intersects with the Pearson’s though.

Poor Kate too.

Lol, I bet most of us watching have no idea that is based off a real perso , even when you say the name I have no clue who it is and I live in Pittsburgh

You live in Pittsburgh and don’t know Franco Harris? Did you recently move there? Do you pay no attention to Pittsburgh history/pop culture events?

Simmer down. Can you conceive of a world where people don't give a shit whatsoever about professional sports? It's the world I live in, and my life is quite full.

This ridiculous outrage about some football player is hysterical.

I don’t see any outrage about Franco Harris. But if you can’t understand the great football nuances of this show, you’re really missing out. If you’d simmer down, maybe you could get it.
Now an outdoor carnival in December in Pittsburgh? There’s your outrage.

Meh, football does nothing for me. It’s funny that you think everyone should share your reverence for the game. As for outrage, nothing about this show has outraged me because I know it’s fictional and the writers are perfectly entitled to take whatever liberties they see fit. I’m happy with an outdoor carnival in December. It doesn’t keep me up at night.

It's just a great shout out to the Pittsburgh football team that runs through so such of the Pearson's history (triplets conception, birth, Jack's death all had an underlying football connection). Immaculate reception is a metaphor as pp above described. I love being in on the theme. To the Pittsburgh pp who said she never heard of Franco Harris: delete your account.

This. Both men had the landmark event of their lives that night.

I don't understand how it's possible not to realize this, and to think that "that football player" is going to be a character in The Pearsons lives. ?

Even if you didn't know about Franco Harris, the Immaculate Reception should ring a bell. It should be common knowledge if you're a person who grew up in the United States.

This is getting ridiculous. Why are you so obsessed with Franco Harris? I grew up in the United States and, like the PPs, had never heard of him. SO WHAT?? Can you move on, please?

Just shut up about it already, it’s not common knowledge.

So absurd.

No one cares about your football ignorance. The fact is you’re missing out on a lot of the parallels and meanings of the show. You don’t get it and you don’t want to. Ok. Got it. The small details of outdoor carnival in December or wrong date of a Springsteen concert are just a side show for Pittsburgers and some care more than others.

Snowed in Pgh the week of my Nov birthday every year I loved there. Sometimes just flurries, but there was snow.

Yawn. Moving on...

I thought it was interesting that Beth was actually being protective of Kevin - not Zoe - when she was objecting to them getting together. I thought for sure she was worried that Kevin would hurt her cousin, when the reality was actually the opposite.

Similar to Friday Night Lights. A great show if you don’t follow football and its traditions, but if you appreciate all the football parallels, the show is just that much more.

I think this is very true. I'm clueless about football and think I miss a lot.

Agreed. The passion runs deeper for those who understand the nuances. And it sort of makes others feel like they’re not in on the joke. Better those who are clueless about their ignorance.

Me too. So help me God, if they do something to end the Beth character I am DONE
