Friendships with Trump Suppporters

I do not agree with everything he has said. Yes, he has said things that make me cringe or gasp and some of his ideas are out in left field. But, I have yet to find a candidate that I agree with on everything. The difference is that most of the other candidates are not as provocative.

But, I cannot vote for Hillary. I disagree with almost everything she stands for and I truly believe this country will be in worse shape in 4 years if she wins.

So, I have come to terms with the idea of voting Trump. I have friends and family who will not vote for him because of what he has said, and I have friends and family who are eager to vote for him - they, also, do not agree with everything he has said.

I also believe that the media has blown up a lot of what he has said and made it into something it isn’t.

I don’t have any problem being friends with Trump supporters. Because, I know most of them are like me.

OP here. I don't agree with many of Hillary's positions either (or maybe I do depending on what day she decides to change them). I'm not here to defend Hillary. My gripe is specifically with people who reason themselves into supporting Trump.

Trump has called for the US govt to create a database of Muslims in this country. Essentially a registry: http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/trump-says-he-would-certainly-implement-muslim-database-n466716. This wasn't "blown out of proportion by the liberal media." He stands by this and has doubled down on it. There is no middle ground in that policy. You either start limiting our freedoms, or you don't.

What I am hearing is that you believe Hillary is so dangerous, that you are willing to sacrifice our country's integrity and the freedoms of innocent citizens because you think Trump is that much better? What has Trump done to garner such confidence? What has he ever done in his life to show he can deliver? Become rich? There are plenty of rich people in this world.

Do the rights of others not matter to you? Because simply saying Hillary is worse doesn't excuse the fact that you are supporting a person who holds these type of views. Using Trump as an anti-Hillary vote means you support such discriminatory policies and racist/sexist views. There no way around that. I cannot with good conscience ever befriend such a person with such a stance.

Gee, then I guess that part is Obama's fault. Well, now that there is an IG, please tell me why HRC refused to talk to him--and her cronies also refused.

Why don't you read the IG report? It says:

Through her counsel, Secretary Clinton declined OIG’s request for an interview.

The "email scandal" is such a nothing sandwich. Seriously, read the report.

And, yet she said she would talk to anyone at anytime and encourage her staff to do the same.
What changed? Or, did she just lie? Again.

She and her staff are talking to the FBI. FBI investigations are confidential unless there is an indictment. OIG reports are always made public. As matter of course, attorneys tell their clients not to say anything public while they are under criminal investigation.
So, her lawyer told her not to.

But, according to Hillary, she is not under criminal investigation. Remember - it is a “security inquiry.”

And what is the crime, exactly?

Also, the FBI has been investigating for a year. How long do you think it takes to read a bunch of emails?

I'm not Hillary's biggest fan, but again, a nothing sandwich. Every day that Trump makes an ass of himself, I like Hillary more.

I guess the FBI will eventually inform the public as to the crime committed.
And, as for the length of time to read emails - you could be right. It shouldn’t take that long.
Which makes me think this investigation is more than just the emails. Is it the Clinton Foundation? Is it that she “deleted” emails that she should have turned over?
Guess we will see.......

And guess what, there are lots of liberals just like me silently lurking in Trump waters but I am one of the few that will publicly admit it. He will win. The polls will never be accurate because even anonymously people won't admit to liking him or preferring him over Hillary if you will. And it's people like you OP that make Trump voters hide in the shadow. But they are there. And they are more like me than you think. Of course there are ignorant redneck asshokes who love him, and they are the ones who will be at the rally's, but there are plenty of educated, smart, good, not racist not homophobic people out there who think Trump is the lesser of two evils. Sorry!

As a Jewish liberal myself, I am having a really hard time believing that this person is an actual Jewish liberal. As they say, "takes one to know one."

Why? Lots of liberal Jews support Bibi. I bet you do too.

Lots of liberal do not support BIBI. Don't confuse AIPAC with liberal Jews

No, we are not fearful. We are just sick of what is happening to this country. Our military. Our economy. Our foreign “policy” (of which there is really no policy at all).
So, we are just fed up. Not fearful.
Don’t pity us.

Our country? Yes, you can't stand the sight of brown people and you freak out when you hear someone speaking in any language other than English.
Our military? What the fuck are you talking about? We STILL spend more than the next ten biggest countries combined on our military, and yes, that includes both Russia and China. If you think our military is being cut back in any meaningful way you are delusional.
Our foreign policy? Ah, yes, what you mean by that is the continuing fall out of fucked-up BUSH foreign policy, which got us into multiple wars, destabilized the entire Middle East, gave rise to Al Qaeda and ISIS, and put us trillions of dollars in debt.

You're fed up? No, I'm fed up, because it was your kind of bullshit that's been screwing up our economy, letting our infrastructure fall apart, and making America a less safe. Trump needs to go. Needs to LOSE. Needs to BE FIRED.

Amen. Every Trump supporter I know is a racist and a hypocrite. Thinks their "bad luck" is other people's fault, and that other people are getting rich off their taxes. When in reality, it's the Trump supporters who like him because they think he's going to give them a bunch of stuff --- when in reality, he plans to slash everything to make the 1 percent richer. They are such suckers.

Op here. I don't believe all or even most Trump supporters are racist. I do; however, believe they are ignorant. And what they don't realize is that in their blindness in hating the Clintons or any other Democrat, they are supporting, in my opinion, a modern day, more dangerous version of George Wallace. A person who is promoting policies that would actually strip our freedoms away. That's not even the half of it either.

Whatever. It's the FBI. They haven't said she is a target. But if they find something, they can go criminal at any time. OIG can't.

Violation of records act, possible espionage, possible racketeering.

As for reading the emails--you must have forgotten that she deleted most of the emails--and the FBI subpoenaed the server and, apparently, was able to recover some emails. Had she turned everything over when she was supposed to, it would not have taken so long. So, I imagine "reading" them came after they were recovered.

And, remember, we just found out recently that HRC's crony--Terry McAuliffe-- is also under investigation. Possible connection there? Of course, he was selling visas before he was elected along with HRC's brother--lots of possibilities.

How much difference is there really, between people who are bigots and people who tolerate bigotry? This is the possible leader of our country that we are talking about.

Op here. Don't care much for Hillary, but I see nothing on this list that makes an anti-Hillary vote for Trump reasonable given the extensive list of problems I can cite regarding Trump, his record and stated policies.

+1 It's also concerning that he is threatening to go after judges and political opponents simply for disagreeing with him. Those are the threats of a dictator. So it's not just the rights of others. He is threatening the democratic system and the rule of law.

Right, and he probably won't get to 10,000, because they are still undergoing intense scrutiny.

Trump isn't talking about just refugees (and yes, they can vet them. It takes years to vet them. http://time.com/4116619/syrian-refugees-screening-process/ ). He's talking about all Muslims. Muslims from Europe who don't need visas. Muslims from other countries who do. Muslims coming here as tourists. Muslims coming here to visit family. Muslims coming here to go to college. Muslims coming here to work.

Not much difference. But I think there is a difference intent. Some of Trumps supporters truly may not understand what the impact some of his policies will have on others..

For example, I have a friend who supports Trump bc he believes Trump will do a better job of protecting our country from Muslim extremists. He thinks some level of banning Muslims from the middle eastern region may be effective in accomplishing this objective. I don't believe he is a bigot, as I know him well and know the company he keeps. But his fears have lead him to support policies that promote bigotry and that are against this country's founding values. In order to have a serious conservation with him about this issue, it's important to understand where is coming from. So simply calling or labeling him a bigot is too simplistic. It's more complex than that.

I get this. It's kind of like Romney. I doubt he was a racist. i doubt he even liked Trump. But he was willing to let the guy raise money for him, and when asked to address the birther issue he said something to the effect of "I don't agree with them but I need their votes". So he's not racist but he is complicit with racists.
