When you are very frightened, you fall back on your basic survival instinct - see threat, get rid of threat. So Trump promises to get rid of all the scary foreigners. That makes the frightened people feel safer.

So don't be angry with your friends for falling for Trump's comforting BS. Pity them for being consumed by fear. And don't talk politics with them until after the election.

No, we are not fearful. We are just sick of what is happening to this country. Our military. Our economy. Our foreign “policy” (of which there is really no policy at all).
So, we are just fed up. Not fearful.
Don’t pity us.

Our country? Yes, you can't stand the sight of brown people and you freak out when you hear someone speaking in any language other than English.
Our military? What the fuck are you talking about? We STILL spend more than the next ten biggest countries combined on our military, and yes, that includes both Russia and China. If you think our military is being cut back in any meaningful way you are delusional.
Our foreign policy? Ah, yes, what you mean by that is the continuing fall out of fucked-up BUSH foreign policy, which got us into multiple wars, destabilized the entire Middle East, gave rise to Al Qaeda and ISIS, and put us trillions of dollars in debt.

You're fed up? No, I'm fed up, because it was your kind of bullshit that's been screwing up our economy, letting our infrastructure fall apart, and making America a less safe. Trump needs to go. Needs to LOSE. Needs to BE FIRED.

Amen. Every Trump supporter I know is a racist and a hypocrite. Thinks their "bad luck" is other people's fault, and that other people are getting rich off their taxes. When in reality, it's the Trump supporters who like him because they think he's going to give them a bunch of stuff --- when in reality, he plans to slash everything to make the 1 percent richer. They are such suckers.

I am not a Trump supporter but I actually know some Trump supporters.

From your words is is crystal clear you don't know a single atrump supporter in real life and have not an iota of an idea of what you are talking about.

Bullshit. I know the Trump supporters, and they are exactly the small-minded people they have always been. I grew up with them -- then escaped to a more enlightened area.

I do not agree with everything he has said. Yes, he has said things that make me cringe or gasp and some of his ideas are out in left field. But, I have yet to find a candidate that I agree with on everything. The difference is that most of the other candidates are not as provocative.

But, I cannot vote for Hillary. I disagree with almost everything she stands for and I truly believe this country will be in worse shape in 4 years if she wins.

So, I have come to terms with the idea of voting Trump. I have friends and family who will not vote for him because of what he has said, and I have friends and family who are eager to vote for him - they, also, do not agree with everything he has said.

I also believe that the media has blown up a lot of what he has said and made it into something it isn’t.

I don’t have any problem being friends with Trump supporters. Because, I know most of them are like me.

Regardless of his nonsense about Muslims and Mexicans, doesn't the thought of giving Trump the nuclear codes keep you up at night? Can you see him working with foreign leaders? Do you really think he knows ANYTHING about foreign policy? Do you really want a president who calls people names like a schoolyard bully? I guess what shocks me is how people cannot see how juvenile his behavior is. You wouldn't accept that behavior from your own children. Why would you accept it from your president?

Not a bit.

Exactly. People are fascinated with Trump because he's unafraid. He can say or do anything at this point and people piss themselves with joy that someone is not PC. They'll be less enamored of this when the country grinds to a halt because of his piss-poor leadership -- Trump Academy anyone? Or how about some Trump Steaks?

Me too. And, I don’t like it.
I will take my chances with the devil that I don’t know.

Why not take your chances with shooting heroin instead? I mean, what's the point, really?

+100 I get so tired of their idiotic views that sound like they are in elementary school circle ring doing kumbaya. "The US should allow anyone who wants to live here should be able to" "We have to make everything about race" "we have to apologize to the US constantly..." "We are the worst nation ever on the earth" "We should change the names of all of our roads, monuments, dollar bills and bathrooms ..." and so on. It is intolerant and ridiculous.

Do you understand that every single point you just spouted - Every Single One - is actually an outright stereotype spoon-fed to you by conservative media and right wing activists? Are you really this gullible?

The only Trump supporter I know (that I'm aware of, since so many of them are too cowardly to publicly own their preference) is my neighbor down the street.

He's the kind of guy who thinks bluster and aggression are "straight talk" and that reasoned discourse and compromise are "wimpy." IOW, he's a moron who thinks kicking ass and taking names is not only a legitimate policy position, it is THE ONLY legitimate policy position.

Yes he is. All these con-jobs have been invented and test marketed for years by Republican consultants so that they appeal to the brains of conservative voters. The problem is the Republican establishment has run into someone who can run a con better than they can.

+1000 Same here. It's sadly also some of my family members - who still have the same old Archie Bunker mentality they did decades ago. PP is wrong. We DO know Trump supporters, and all too well. They just resent having us know the truth about them.

Yeah. I have Sunday Night Dinner with Trump supporters every week. Like I said -- my family. AND they think Obama is Muslim, and that he was born in Kenya.

Fun times!

Anonymous wrote:I find it extremely difficult to remain friends with people who support Trump. I'm a social conservative (or moderate liberal depending on the day). I have maintained a healthy set of friends on both sides of the political isle. I even have tea party and OWS friends. Politics has never, in my 40 years of life, ever been a negative factor in my relationships. This time, with Trump, its different.

How does one reconcile voting for someone who wants to ban people in the Muslims faith? Or register them? Aren't these views the exact opposite of our foundational principles of our country? Where would Trump stop in limiting our freedoms? What kind of person would vote for someone who would openly and enthusiastically promote such a policy?

I read somewhere that this reconciliation is similar to friends who are on opposite sides of the prolife/choice debate. How could a prolifer be friends with someone who believes abortion isn't murder? How could a pro choicer be friends with someone who doesn't value a woman's right to make decisions about her own body? I'm a pro-lifer, but my thoughts on the issue are more on the policy. Not the person. I've met people who have had abortions, and empathize with them and their decision to do so. Whether not I agree or disagree, there are valid points on both sides of the debate. This is not the case with many of Trumps views. There is no "middle ground" in banning or registering Muslims, for example.

This has probably been rehashed on here many times and I'm not going to go into Trump bashing mode, b/c its not constructive. I just want to know how others who have friends who support Trump, but who do not agree with Trump's views, reconcile this internally.

I'm a Trumo supporter. I have friends and family members who support both Democrat candidates. I have no issues but then again I'm mature enough to understand people have different opinions and I'm not childish enough to resent them.

guessing I'm just more mature than you I suppose
