Please cover your baby's heads and ears. It's cold out there!

People are missing the point. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Simple as that. Maybe there was a hat, maybe the baby tossed it in a puddle of water, maybe it was causing a rash. WHY do you think it's any of your business? It's not like she was tieing the baby to some train tracks or setting it down in the middle of the street.

Because they don't want to. Apparently, they don't feel cold, because if they did, they would wear the hat. Not wearing a hat doesn't cause illness. Bacteria and viruses cause illness.

Stop parroting information without actually understanding it. Bacteria and viruses are more likely to attack a weakened immune system, which happens when the body has to fight to stay warm. Exposure to cold increases the risk of developing upper and lower respiratory tract infections and dying from them. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17705968

OP, I'm with you.

But a weakened immune system doesn't happen from having the head exposed to 37 degrees for 2 minutes while walking to/from a store. And a weakened immune system can also happen from being overheated.

Please post the resource showing that overheating increases likelihood of catching colds/ respiratory infections, and worsens the severity of the illness.
Babies are too young to link the act of taking off clothing with the feeling of getting cold, so if you're waiting for them to learn that lesson, you might have to wait another year, at least.

Let's see... there's a wealth of information. Overdressing a child can cause heat illnesses. Depending on how much a child is over dressed and how long depends on the severity of the heat illness. Heat illnesses, such as heat stroke, are obviously bad, and weakens the child, making them susceptible to other illnesses.

As far a the parent being bundles up but not the child, its because parents don't take off coats in the car. Its actually less about their comfort, and more about convenience. I hate walking through a store with a heavy coat on, so I'm one of the adults you see walking between the car and store without a coat. EVERY day someone feels the need to tell me I need to wear a coat. Um, I have a coat, its in the car, and no, I don't need to wear it. I'm outside for less than a minute going between the car and the store. When I drop the kids off at school, I'm usually carrying their coats because they don't want to put them on for the 30 second walk from the car to the school. It would be different if they stood outside at a bus stop, but they don't.

Huh? You do realize that a common cold is not caused from actually being cold. As for the whole "babies can get sick from not being properly warm in the winter" argument. Yes, this is true. However, that would be because a mom takes her baby out to the park without a parka on, or he plays in the snow without mittens on. Not a 2 minute walk from the heated car to the heated store without a hat on.

It's going down to below freezing tonight. Please bundle up your children, even if you think they like freezing.
Happy New Year.

Or don't, because there is plenty of evidence suggesting there's no harm in a little cold air: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12357708

So, so true. The rest are just excuses.

Ha! I remember this ridiculousness from last year.

F that I am young I am a mom to be, and it's so cold the 30 second walk from my car to the office had me shaking in my little boots with cold. It's cold, people should bundle up and bundle up their babies. Sounds like common sense to me.

WTF is wrong with you? Mind your own damn business.

Neither of my babies ever wore hats. I dressed them in layers and they were plenty warm. I used to get comments all the time as if I was neglecting my kids.

And, to the PPs asking why the mom was wearing a hat. Because the mom can keep her hat on. That's why.

Idiots.

Overreact much?

OP this why every kid has the evr recurring ear infection here! They do not wear hats in weather like this. You are right, they need to wear hats. It is very cold.
