Did she say it because those were the only "p'" and "g" words she could think of? Maybe? I am a 53 year old African American Army vet. 82nd Airborne Division 1-325 A.I.R D Co. AT-1 Operation Iraqi Freedom. My wife told me about the OP using the word "goon". I was born in South Carolina and spent much my adult life in the Army. The word goon is racist. A white soldier would use it in derogatory terms referring to a black soldier. In the South, it was used to describe black males. From what I have read, some civilians are trying to validate it by saying it means this or AA's are making a big deal about it. We are making it an issue because some people didn't realize it was such a vile word to African Americans. This is not to say resident fraud is not a problem. But folks on this site know the demographics of this region. When a Black poster after black poster informs and educate people about why it was a bad choice of words, it still seems to me that some refuse to accept it. If you are gay, Jewish, Latino, Physically Challenged or a woman and someone said something offensive, I would hope you try to informed that person, that what they said was demeaning and wrong.

In the minds of most, I doubt there's an association between goons and race.

Spielberg agrees.

Goonies, huh? So, you are going put this on Spielberg? Well, that makes it ok. Give it a try. Walk up to your AA friend and say come here you old goonie and give me a hug. Take pictures and post it for us.

First of all, the name-calling should be beneath an adult.

Secondly, the speculation about someone else's sex life is truly bizarre. I can't fathom what brought that PP to even go down that road.

Third, the level of emotion here is entirely disproportionate to that which is reasonable for a discussion. If you get this out-of-control over address cheating, I can't imagine what effect getting cut-off in traffic may have. (Or having the grocery store run out of organic milk, or getting a stain on your blouse, or when your dentist appointment has to be rescheduled, or, or, or....) If this is the kind of issue to elicit so much anger, then your life is going to be long and hard, even though you'll probably die early of a heart attack.

How the sex life comments got started...
If you're not "playing investigator" then why in the heck are you getting information from the grandma about the DC dad being unemployed? Whatever. I call BS. Call me what you want, but you're the ignorant one. I am far from racist. I am married to a black man and have black kids. It's nosey, racist people like you that have no business stereotyping this poor kid's situation. I am all for catching the cheating parents that are stealing from the system. Report the issue and let it be. There is no reason you should know as much information as you do on this story. Face it, you are a gossip-whore and one of those moms at school that I despise. It’s probably because of your poor sex life. Go watch Bachelor, gossip at a PTA meeting or get your kicks somewhere else. You are pathetic.

Do you feel better now because you're not the one who started it, just the one that continued it page after page? You sound like my 7 year old. He started it mom, she called me a name first.

Huh? You were too lazy to read the posts so I was doing you a favor. Your 7 year old is in trouble with you as a parent!

A notable example was about 10 years ago when a member of the Williams administration was fired because in a meeting he bemoaned a budget allocation as "niggardly." Some DC government employees at the meeting accused him of using the n-word and took great offense. Their ignorance of the English language would have been almost comical if not for the reputational damage to the appointee, who was reinstated by Mayor Williams.

This. Totally remember this!!! Thanks for sharing. Sheds light on a clear misunderstanding of a term in a world of racial paranoia!

Yes, one of the DC government employees who came up short in the English department and complained was Marshall Brown, father of former DC council chairman Kwame ("Fully Loaded") Brown and described as "best known as one of [Marion] Barry's most loyal lieutenants."

False! Think what you want. I am a tax-paying DC resident that thinks all cheaters should be prosecuted and expelled from school regardless of the sad story behind the cheating. However, I do take extreme offense when I hear people being referred to as "greasy trolls, ghouls, goblins, and goons".

This thread was reported to me this morning. Finally having had the time to read through it, I am absolutely appalled. I would delete the entire thing but I don't want to have to deal with the resulting questions about it. So, I will just lock it. Those of you interested in talking about reporting residency fraud can start a new thread. Those of you interested in debating whether calling the residents of a predominantly black county "goons" might legitimately be considered racist can start a new thread on the topic of "missing the obvious".
