Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Smartpants, aren't you? Pun intended.

This new thing called a sundress might not look good on everyone. Depending on your body shape, it can actually be drawing attention to your trouble spots. In my book, some women look better in their capris than in their sundresses.

Ugh, dresses. Hate them and their impracticality. Nope, I'd take capris over a stupid dress any day.

The point of capris are that the woman is NOT wearing shorts. And with the record heat this year, I personally don't give a #@$% what others think if I wear capris. Its too hot to wear pants! So I say, " live and let live".

In Ohio, I seldom wear capris, and never shorts. But heading to Texas in August, I am goign with capris since I think short look much worse. With temps at 104 and up, even lightweight pants will be too hot for daytime, but evenings I will consider it. I don't care about fashion sake, its comfort and health-wise that I choose this. But to people who complain that someone 'looks bad in something', I say 'live and let live, its not hurting you'. I understand dress codes for fancy restaurants etc, but for just walking, siteseeing etc. let it go.

I just don't get this dresses are hard thing. I wear skirts or dresses 95% of the days all summer. I walk about 3 miles a day, I run after the bus, I do chores and light yard work, occasionally I go for a little hike or something. I never feel like I am being restricted by my clothes--obviously I am not wearing a formal gown to the park, but what gives people? Are you just buying the wrong dresses?

Nope, because I don't buy dresses. First off, no one needs to see my pale, spider-veiny legs. Second off, once I get the proper undergarments so I can be assured that I'm properly "sucked in" and that no one will see my lady-bits, it makes dresses totally impractical. Because I've been around long enough to have seen womens dresses fly up in the wind on metro escalators, ride up to hoochie-levels while sitting, and just generally being wildly inappropriate. I'd rather not have to worry about what might or might not be on display at any given time. Therefore, I will stick with pants.

I cannot imagine doing yard work or going for a hike in a skirt.

Wear what you want to wear ladies, and wear it with confidence.. don't allow anyone to verbally bully you into believing that they know you better than you know yourself. You are adorable and beautiful in anything you choose to dress your own body in. The only thing possibly ugly about a person would be harboring a critical and judgmental soul, pretending that your unwillingness to see the beauty in others is actually "sound fashion advice".. makes me think of Satan spewing hate-filled and destructive words into the hearts of God's beloved. Oh, btw, I just adore my new capris, and I will rock these babies tomarrow with a big happy grin on my face!!

Good one, PP. I am 45 years old, 5'8", 135 pounds. Even though I'm not overweight by any stretch of the imagination, I have wrinkly knees and cellulite on my upper thighs. Trust me, I look much better in capris than in shorts. And I don't care what OP thinks, I will continue wearing them until the fall.

Well said, PP. Not sure about the Satan part but I agree with everything else.

But I love capris! They are much more comfortable than pants and more dignified than shorts.

Here ya go . . . picture a woman in her 50's or 60's with fair skin and leg veins . . . now which would you prefer--shorts, capris, or a dress?

Dress or shorts.

I agree, although I think a lot of it has to do with a person's body type and the length of the capris. I'm fairly tall, so I buy long pants (that aren't long enough), then have them cropped by a dressmaker about five to six inches above the ankle for spring and summer.
