So, again - zero about the U.S. actually *invading* Venezuela. Thanks.

How else would Trump accomplish his list of goals?

This is an economic war. Trump wants regime change in Venezuela - he wants to force Maduro out. Ordering a complete blockade of all Venezuela's sanctioned oil tankers accomplishes this. He is trying to cripple the country's economy. You don't need boots on the ground to do this, and he has never threatened to send our military into the country.

Trump thinks that crippling their economy is going to make the people turn on their leader? My god he's even dumber than I thought.

The US won't invade Venezuela. The country is bigger than Iraq. And its geography is very favorable to defenders and insurgents and rebels and cartels and so on. It would take hundreds of thousands of troops to pacify Venezuela. And it'd be awful, like all these stupid, ill-informed adventures are - from Vietnam to Iraq.

But we can absolutely cripple the country by other means. In principle, I don't have a problem boarding and confiscating the "shadow fleet," the ghost ships that Russia and others use to evade international sanctions. That is within international law. But America's purpose is not pure. It's old-time 19th Century imperialism. The US wants Venezuela's oil. Trump thinks he's Genghis Khan. And South America is his. He wants his tribute and the revenue and wealth. He feels it's owed to him. Putin gets Ukraine. Xi gets Taiwan. Trump wants to be a big boy in his sphere of influence to show he's just as "tough" as Putin and Xi. And he's settled on Venezuela.

It's all very pathetic. The result from this course of action will be that all of South America - including their right wingers - will regard the United States as the enemy. And that will last for generations. We are the baddies. And that will have consequences for years.

We WILL BE the enemy if we take this course of action. When will this country learn????

DP. Venezuelans WANT Maduro ousted. Machado is their hero(ine). If the U.S. succeeds in toppling the Maduro dictatorship, we certainly won't be their enemy.

Exactly! Remember how much the Iraqis loved us after we got rid of Saddam? And how the Afghans loved us when we got rid of the Taliban? That all went so well and now they just love us and it's so great.

You idiots are so dumb. Who tf are "Venezuelans"? Chávez and Maduro have been in power for 35 years. They actually participated in elections and received votes. From actual people. Do you know nothing of where Chávez's base came from and why they support them? And Maduro has all the police and the soldiers. Absolute idiocy.

Yep. Can't wait for that grifter Johnnie Moore and his Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to be rebranded.

You mean all the Venezuela who have left and came to the US? The same ones who Trump deported back to Venezuela?

I really hope most of you don't vote because how tf can you cast a ballot if you're so ignorant? Get educated, watch some YT videos, ask chatbots generic questions, something...

America has pretty much done nothing positive in the history of Latin America. Nothing. It's all been for realpolitik, i.e., cheap agriculture, cheap drugs, cheap textiles, and cheap labor.

America has deliberately destabilized the entire region to always be able to "negotiate" favorable terms by pitting countries against each other.

If those American backed puppet regimes were so great for their citizens, there would've been no need to overthrow those governments.

Latin Americans have a deep distrust of America based on history. Venezuela is no different.

US involvement in regime change in Latin America

At Venezuela’s request, the United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency session on December 23.

This should be interesting.
