Yeah people here are saying "this bothers me and I don't want to do it." Others are saying "suck it up." And then you see how effective that was when the former group votes.

There is actually a fair amount of consensus. Very few people are looking to misgender and offend if someone is sharing their pronouns. But not everyone wants to participate of in terms of highlighting their own. And that should be okay too.

This. Just because I personally don’t care to include my pronouns doesn’t mean that I don’t think others should if it’s important to them. And whatever they put is what I will follow.

And if I’m called a he and I’m a she, I don’t care. If it was important to me, I’d clarify up front.

But for a preschool teacher -- is it some big secret? Don't you want people to address you properly? Just say she/her -- why does this cost you any mental energy?

I mean -- these aren't the hard questions like trans people playing volleyball or whatever. These are really easy -- tell people how they should address you! I use Ms. with my last name because I didn't take my husband's name, so Mrs. would be incorrect (and also the fact that I'm married feels irrelevant to my job) -- but if I wanted people to call me Mrs. or Dr. or whatever, I would expect to to tell them that. People are trying to be nice and respectful -- let's not discourage that, please!

What you wrote is illogical because it dismisses the original concern by assuming that sharing pronouns should never be upsetting. That is begging the question since you assume from the start that there is no real discomfort when that was the very point being made. You also rely on a false analogy by comparing pronouns to titles like Ms. or Dr., which are not the same in purpose or context. By saying only people with something to hide would avoid stating pronouns, you are setting up a straw man that misrepresents the position into something deceptive rather than simply a personal objection. Much of what you add is also a red herring, since it shifts the conversation away from the actual issue and toward unrelated points about volleyball or troll farms.

This!! I swear this is our tea party moment. The democrats have lost their minds (since Covid). Newsflash - you are not doing squat to help trans people by forcing preK teachers to disclose pronouns. Please put your energy elsewhere. Pick up litter on your street and you will be doing better with your time.

The odds of this being a troll post are very very high. And the goal of the OP WAS likely intended to get you to say “Seeeeee Democrats are too caring about trans stuff waaah.”

Some of you are way way too worried about trans people.

Why do you need to know someone's gender, especially if you're just interacting with them over email etc? I have an ethnic name where the gender isn't obvious. No one in my workplace addresses anyone as Ms/Mr. It doesn't matter if you know my gender ot not. Just like you may not know my age, hair color, marital status, hobbies or anything else.

I prefer the ambiguity personally. Lots of studies about how people interact with (perceived) men vs women differently even over email.

That’s fine and I regularly just use people’s full names when I don’t know the gender. But even over email you reference pronouns. “Pat is making the slides and said she’d be done later today.” But if I don’t know then I use they in the singular sense. “Pat is making slides and said they’d be done later today.”

Honestly don’t care, just wanting to do what my colleagues prefer.

You are shifting away from the original objection and reframes the issue as a matter of your own communication habits. That makes it a red herring because it does not address why someone might not want to state their pronouns. You also imply that because you can manage without pronouns or simply follow what colleagues prefer, the concern should not matter, which is a non sequitur. The conclusion that the issue is trivial does not follow from the original point that some people do not want to state their pronouns at all.

I’m not a troll, I am an embarrassed dem. I care a lot about “trans stuff” and I wish people were not so content with changing their email sig and patting themselves on the back for a job well done.

Which is the opposite of what OP is doing.

It’s almost like people are responding to posts that are not the OP.

Agree. If I saw this I’d request you as my kid’s teacher.

Many people would prefer the teacher that wasn't on the pronoun pushing bandwagon.

If op is in fact a preschool teacher, their use of pronouns while objecting to the use of pronouns certainly doesn’t bode well for the state of education.

Maybe it was a troll trying to prove that you will never, ever, admit when you went wrong. I have a laundry list of things Republicans have been wrong on (endless warmongering and closing of mental hospitals being front and center) but you're all blue no matter who.

If I saw this I'd pull my kid from the preschool. Id assume they were catering to some weirdo on their staff.

Agreed. But we know OP is just a troll, trying to stir the pot here. Teachers are usually much smarter than DCUM posters

Not an unreasonable assumption. It's always that one person. 99 percent of people don't care. The gender pronoun thing is performative nonsense. 99 percent of humanity just wants to get on with their day.
