Overlee Crash & Burn

Great that someone got a video so they will be punished. Unbelievably obnoxious.

That’s terrible! It should be reported to the NVSL and they should be penalized. That’s completely unsportsmanlike behavior.

My guess is NVSL will get involved. It’s pretty egregious.

This should be its own thread with Chesterbrook in the title. Overlee is a really nice group of people and it’s not fair for them to be saddled with details about CB’s poor behavior nestled in this thread.

That is terrible! There is video of this??

At least a few. It was OKM’s walk-in, and teams tend to video that for their IG reels and things. I’ve seen one video, but you can see others with a phone out in the video I saw.

A walk-in? Can you explain?

At an away meet, teams gather in the parking lot and all walk in together sometimes while cheering. Normally the home team is doing warm ups so there wouldn't be any interaction. Our mid-Division team has done this for years. I would love to see this video to judge what happened.

Take this with a grain of salt, folks, as you probably should with a lot of these posts on "sportsmanship" (irony in quotes intended). I was also there. This is not exactly accurate. This is also how rumors and gossip starts, and since we are all adults trying to raise our children to be kind, responsible humans, I don't think this post belongs here. What is the purpose? No CB team reps yelled at a coach (I was an eyewitness to the walk-in). The CB team was cheering in the pool, like they do before meets, and hopefully most pools do - it's fun). CB was excited about a close race with a newish rival who has deservedly come up the ranks each year. D1 respects them. It turned out to be an amazing and close competition. Haven't had that close a competition in years, with many records broken. Haven't heard about people wanting to exile CB, but i think everyone should be better sports about close, friendly competition, and not be sour sports. I know that's what I am trying to teach my kids- to win and lose well.

As for the O sign, the kids made a mistake. They had consequences after that poor decision, as it was indeed a poor one. "He who lives in a glass house..." I hope if/when your kid makes a mistake, you are there to firmly and lovingly correct them so they learn from it instead of casting shame on a whole team and collectively bad mouthing to a bunch of others. Another reminder to the poster and respondents, we are the grownups, let's set the example!

Hopefully NVSL has a copy of a video. And I'm sure kids will upload it somewhere so we all can see what happened.

I think the PP said the OKM coach had to yell at the other team’s coaches.

The O sign? I must have missed that part . What’s the O sign?

Nothing will happen to CB (or Tuckahoe). Their nonsense has been happening for years without consequences.

My swimmer saw it on his friend’s social media. But the friend has since took it down. I don’t know what the O sign thing above is, so this seems to be taking on a life of its own. All I saw in the video was a bunch of the CB older swimmers intentionally splashing the OKM swimmers and parents as they walked into the pool (with coaches there watching or not stopping it anyway) and somebody with an OKM shirt on going over to stop it.

I mean, what in the world is wrong with these kids? Splashing the opponent and the parents. Show some decency and respect. It’s also disturbing if it’s true that no adults from CB intervened to curb this obnoxious behavior!

Chesterbrook has a history of stealing banners, busting up turtle piñatas (highlands), doing horrific intimidating skits, and now splashing people. I don’t understand why the NVSL will not intervene when these things are a clear violation of the code of conduct for the league. There is NO place for this in summer league swimming.

Not sure how Tuckahoe got dragged into a conversation about Chesterbrook. OKM parent here and I can tell you that our experience at Tuckahoe last week was completely opposite from the competition today. Tuckahoe was kind, complementary, and overall good sports. Great pool and great people!

We were warned about how Division 1 when we moved up last year. Now in our second year, we’ve been to all the other pools. Tuckahoe, Overlee, Donaldson Run and Highlands have all been great. So far as I can tell, most of the bad rep for Division 1 comes from Chesterbrook. They act like total dbags.

Coach told our younger swimmers to cover their ears and look away when they walked in. Think about that for minute.
