Young men are becoming more and more conservative. Good luck.

Kamala Harris won 40% of 18-29 men without a college degree and 46% of 18-29 men with a college degree. Still lots of fish in that sea.

There are more women than men. If women get too picky they'll end up childless cat ladies.

Perhaps this is what they want. Men are a lot of problems and trouble and I have a very helpful DH whom I like and love but when he asks where I keep scissors and we've lived in the same house for 15 years and the scissors have always been in the same place, I do get annoyed

And left unsaid in the article: If we can't keep the birth rate high enough, the only alternative to maintain our population is immigration.

It’s structural, from the cost of housing to the cost of college to the cost of insurance and childcare to the expectation that children need to be in many extracurriculars to boomer grandparents working longer and helping less with childcare.

It has almost nothing to do with the cost of housing, childcare or insurance. It has to do with urbanization, women’s education levels/employment opportunities, and overall standard of living expectations. Urbanization and higher density housing=lower birth rates. Women being more educated and having more employment opportunities means lower birth rates. Higher expectations for standard of living means lower birth rates because people are less willing to make sacrifices to have children.

There is a 16 point gap between Gen Z men and women in the 2024 election. They don’t want the same things.

Young Women are outpacing men in college. I think a lot of men just feel left behind by these women. That combined with the weird red pill content being pushed to teens is creating this massive split.

Seriously, $6k would only cover diapers.

In addition, many men haven't really embraced child care and household responsibilities so women are working and having to do more work at home. Who wants that?

If they want more kids then theyll need to pay for someone to stay home or fully subsidize childcare, the latter of which wont work but the former will reduce the strain on childcare. I would stay home with my kid if I could re-enter the workforce and still have an income so that I dont lose retirement. It is most difficult during the early years barring special needs. Its more labor intensive, kids require constant oversight and school hasnt started yet. But no, 6k isnt going to make shi%. And they already couldnt keep the expanded childcare credit so its never been about helping families with children.

Trump Administration announced plans to eradicate the Head Start program. That does not encourage people to have kids.

Every time I play with my grandkids I’ll think of the women here who won’t have the same opportunity because their daughters are alone.

Since when do children ‘owe’ their parents grandchildren?

They don’t. Most normal ones want to have a family. I’m thankful for my grandchildren.

Let’s be clear here. There is a sizable population of Latino Americans, citizens/born here, who have high birthrates. It’s white birthrates that are low. The birthrates freak out is 100% about white supremist ideology.

So who gets to define what’s normal and what’s not? Has it occurred to you that there might be women with zero interest in having children? And that’s is ok and even NORMAL to feel that way?
