It has almost nothing to do with the cost of housing, childcare or insurance. It has to do with urbanization, women’s education levels/employment opportunities, and overall standard of living expectations. Urbanization and higher density housing=lower birth rates. Women being more educated and having more  employment opportunities means lower birth rates. Higher expectations for standard of living means lower birth rates because people are less willing to make sacrifices to have children. [/quote]

In addition, many men haven't really embraced child care and household responsibilities so women are working and having to do more work at home.  Who wants that?[/quote]
