Not losing weight on IF

Anonymous
I have been doing intermittent fasting for 2 weeks now and am confused as to why I haven’t lost any weight at all. I am doing 16:8 and not cheating on the window, and only drinking water or black coffee. My lunch is a salad with 1/4 chickpeas but otherwise no carbs, I have an apple or rx bar for a snack and dinner is a protein and non starchy vegetable. I have had no sugar, but did have one glass of wine a couple nights (within my eating window).

That is literally all I am eating. Is it odd that I have lost nothing?

Curious if most people who lose weight doing IF are also counting calories or restricting what they eat (like doing keto).

I'm doing IF with keto but 2 weeks is way too early to see any change, unless you are severely overweight. For example, it took me 3 months to go from 145 to 130 lbs. and I'm 5'7. I'd replace that bar with real food. One glass of wine has 12 oz and 5 oz are almost 130 calories, depending on the wine.

Try eating one meal a day. The sad fact is that as women age we really have to do drastic stuff to make our body budge. If you really are eating what you say then you should definitely be losing weight. Are you eating totally organic? You would be surprised by how much pesticides and other food trash can gunk up your digestion

IF is an easy way for me to maintain my weight without a lot of thought, but I don’t lose weight on it.
I have to calorie count to lose.

An apple or rx bar will spike your insulin. Try cutting that out as a snack. Even in fruit it can cause an insulin spike that will cause your body to hold onto fat

Two weeks is a SHORT time horizon. I wouldn’t react yet.

IF never really helped me. I’m doing keto now and started losing immediately - I’m down 4 pounds this week and wasn’t terribly overweight to begin with (154, 5’6). I would cut out the chickpeas, apple and wine. Replace with lower carb higher protein/fat items. Some nut butter, string cheese, avocado for example.

You need to exercise. IF alone is not a magic bullet.

Doesn’t seem like you’re getting enough calories. Your body is trying to hold on to the weight.

Try keeping the IF hours but up your calories to at least the recommended amount.

Wow the advice here is terrible...only eat one meal, you need to eat more....blah blah blah.

Op how much do you currently weigh?, what is your goal weight? how many calories are you eating?

IF is not magic. just a way to reduce hunger and thus calories consumed. Eating 1500 cal in an 8 hr window is the same as eating them in a 12 hr window. I would track calories to make sure are really in a deficit.

another question is how often are you weighting yourself? Weight fluctuates and if you only weight yourself once a week it can be hard to tell if you have lost weight in a week. Instead track it daily and see if over the month the line is trending downward. The happy scale app also works for this purpose.

This is WRONG. You clearly don’t understand how IF works.
OP, give it two months, it’s only been two weeks. Stay the course, have patience and report back. If you stay with it, and don’t eat junk during your eating window you WILL see results.

IF is another joke/fad. It’s not sustainable for the long haul.

Why can't she eat junk? I thought calories didn't matter with IF?

You clearly don't understand how fat loss works.

If you are not losing weight you are eating too many calories. PERIOD.

I disagree. Skipping breakfast, and stopping eating for the day (aka 16:8) has been very sustainable for me. It works with my body’s hunger rhythms, my workout schedule, and if I decide to “go off” it for special occasions- like vacation brunching- it’s really easy to go right back on it.

Now, I don’t really refer to it as IF, I prefer “eating window” or “eating day” I eat reasonably, and if I have to lose because of vacation indulging, I count calories. I take half and half in my coffee before noon, I work out, and I limit alcohol and sugar.

So no, IF is not some magic bullet, but I find it to be a part of my active, healthy lifestyle.

I think you are the one who is confused. OP, you need to track your eating to see how many calories you are eating.
