What do we think will happen on Monday?

With another day of closure, they’ll be able to magic a fleet of bobcats and tractors and a bunch of people to work them, and they’ll hire construction crews with jackhammers to break up the ice and then push it away, far away into the woods and fields surrounding the schools so Larla and Aiden have a place to park, and it will all be like it never even happened by Tuesday at 9 am!!!

Right, because the teachers are the ones making the decisions about closures. 🙄

Are they being paid to work? Then get them working to get the schools open.

Don’t be a jerk.

Staff was told first. This email is going to families:

Hello FCPS Families,

As we navigate through another day of cold weather and icy sidewalks and bus stops, I want to express my deepest appreciation for everyone’s patience as we work to safely reopen our schools to students and staff. I remain inspired by our outstanding custodial, facilities, and transportation teams, who have worked non-stop to make our school buildings and grounds safe. We are ready.

Our transportation team and other leaders (including me🙂) have been driving around the community all weekend to check on conditions. The challenge continues to be snow piles and ice on sidewalks and bus stops (we have 45,000 bus stops!) that have proven difficult to remove. With that in mind, we feel that closing all Fairfax County public schools tomorrow, Monday, February 2, 2026, is the best decision.

School offices and central offices will open on time.

School Age Child Care (SACC) and Beyond the Bell (BTB) centers will be open.

Additional updates will be available on the FCPS website and the FCPS mobile app.

As we near the end of the quarter and prepare to return to school, students should charge up their laptops and log into Schoology to check on any missing assignments. Reading a book or working through some math problems is always a good idea! There are also plenty of age-appropriate ideas on the FCPS Snow Day activities webpage.

I have spoken with VDOT and county officials, and we look for tomorrow’s warming weather to allow VDOT time to clear those remaining intersections and roadways that may cause challenges for buses and drivers. We anticipate that this coordination with our county and state partners will allow us to re-open Tuesday with a two-hour delay. We will update you regarding Tuesday’s status tomorrow and appreciate our shared interest in prioritizing student and staff safety.

Warmest regards,

Michelle Reid

APS and ACPS and FCCPS and PWCS and MCPS all closed too. She’s literally aligned with every other district besides LCPS.

Ok. It's supposed to get above 30 degrees for maybe 4 hours in the afternoon.
