- The Black Student Fund’s commitment to bringing independent schools and black families together led to the creation of the Annual School Fair in 1972. The Fair quickly became an effective student venue and continues to be one of the largest school fairs of its kind in the region. For forty years, the BSF/LSF School Fair has provided a networking opportunity for thousands of families in the metropolitan area to meet with representatives from more than sixty independent schools. Parents and prospective students get first-hand knowledge about each school’s programs, community, admissions requirements and financial aid process. On Saturday September 23, 2017, the ADA National Capital Area will hold the DC Step Out Walk & Tour de Cure at the Washington Monument to raise funds for diabetes research in the DC region. Across the National Capital Area, the ADA has helped more than 200,000 individuals and families living with diabetes. Through research, education and advocacy, the ADA is working to prevent and ultimately cure this disease. Over 3,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event. The event’s bike portion -- titled Tour de Cure -- will feature three cycling routes for anyone from beginners to seasoned riders and offers one of the only closed-course bike rides through the DC area. The walking portion -- titled DC Step Out Walk -- is a 5K presented by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. There will also be on-site entertainment, Kids’ Zone, a health and wellness expo, and much more.
